Lyle is getting the first of the free installs and yesterday, 3-16-06, we rand the pre-dyano runs. These were three runs made back to back. Pretty nice for a stock '99 10AE.

I am looking at Monday to ship the rest. All I need is this week to confirm Lyles install.
The tensioner brackets needed to be re anodized and have the three letters changed to FFS :). Also waiting for the throttle cable brackets with the wheels but will not hold up shipments for that. I have the old brackets that functioned perfectly but didn't look so cool and will ship with those if I have to. I will send out the proper brackets with Ari's design as soon as possible after that. Changing the throttle cable bracket is a 5 minute job so no biggie.
Everything else is here and ready. :)
Ah yes, almost forgot. The shipping containers showed up today too. :) $38 each but they will ensure that the kits arrive safe and sound no matter what UPS does to them short of driving the truck over it.
There will be a load of them for UPS on Monday.

So, inquiring minds want to know....Did the install go smoothly or did it turn into a social event? :)

Smooth. :)
About 8 hours. Turned key and ran. I did have a dinner meeting with Double 086 so no time for testing but will test it today.

OK. Good news, bad news, even better news. When life sends you lemons, make lemonade. :)
It lit right up last night and again this AM. Ran smooth as glass and felt like lots of power. That's the good news.
This is a 10AE with ABS. The bypass valve sat right up against the ABS controller. When the engine torqued heavy under acceleration, it snapped the bypass valve. That's the bad news.
The best news is that I had a spare bypass valve actuator and it turns out that it only takes 5 minutes to rotate the valve 180 degrees and aim it towards the front of the car out of harms way and nicely protected, actually. Why is that the best news, you ask? :) Because I think that is the same problem the RHD guys have in the UK and Australia. It appears that a 5 minute fix here before ship and these could ship to the UK. :):):)
All is well with Lyle's car and it will be on the dyno at 2:00 tomorrow.

Great news Lyle! I'm about to crawl out of my skin with anticipation. I've got the garage cleaned and all the tools layed out and ready for surgery. Let us know how she feels!

Well, here's my story and I'm sticking to it. :D
It fired up perfectly Wednesday afternoon. Total time for install, ~8 hours. Idled and ran perfectly. However, when it went for it's maiden voyage, we discovered that the bypass valve was touching the ABS assembly and, when the engine was under high torque, it rocked to the passenger side and snapped the bypass valve. :( Then we figured out how easy it was to rotate the new bypass valve but, that screwed up the mount for the new throttle cable bracket with the wheel (Ari system). That had to be modified to work. That was finished this morning and off to the dyno. Hooked it up and made a pass. The dyno operator called over to me 169.9 WHP. WHAT!, I said!! Can't be. Made a couple more runs and it made up to 172WHP. OK, time to check stuff. Was the bypass valve closing all the way? Yep. Was the BTB opening all the way? Yep. Was there a timing issue. Nope, 24* like my '99. Was the belt slipping? Nope. The numbers were that we should have been making around 10 PSI boost and we were making 13. The fuel should have been around 12:1 and it was almost 10:1. WHP should have been 195 and it was 170. For a long time I had a signature that said "more flow, less boost". What we had here was "more boost, less flow". Off the dyno and back to the shop. So, I said to Curt, "it looks like the exhaust is stuffed with rags. Were there any problems when it arrived stock?" "Yep. It had a CEL that was the 'inefficient cat' error." Click. On came the light. BAD CAT.
Back to the dyno. Dropped the cat and it jumped from 170 to 196. Lyle is going to order a new cat and that will fix that. Whew. :) When we dyno'd Jim's '99 with the stock exhaust, the difference between the stock exhaust and an open header was about 2-3WHP. My '99 was about the same when I went back to stock.
The fuel came right back where it belonged and, the boost dropped from 13PSI back to 10/11. "More flow, less boost".
So, here is the dyno charts. Red is stock, green is this morning and brown is this afternoon.

Nice power Tom, but why is it so lean until 4.5k?

Actually, I can't explain it. There was no adjustment to fuel from the plugged cat run to the good run. I can offer some guesses but, until he gets it fixed, I won't know.
1. Could be a dyno sensor glitch. I don't think they like being stuffed up the header.
2. The ECU has a learning curve everytime there is a major change as to where to let go into open loop. Beings as it has been like this for a long time, it could be just that it needs a good cat for a couple days and it will go away. The JR PC runs the fuel at that point and is at the mercy of the ECU to go open loop. Major changes (and I would call 25WHP major) take time for the ECU to re-correct.
3. We also try to launch around 2500RPM each time and I had overshot that and was decelerating back to 2500 (dead lean) when he gave the nod and I stomped the pedal. Could be there was a delay there as well?
Best answer I can give. When he gets it fixed, we can re-dyno and check. I will say that it runs great, perfect idle with or without the A/C, etc. Just what I would expect from one of these kits. I also believe, from the feel of it, that it was richer than the chart shows. My guess is number 1 above.

Congrats Tom!
I also think its the dyno sensor error, it happens. If that were a real reading, it wouldnt be a straight line.

I chatted with the dyno guys and they pointed out that if it were real, the HP/Tq curve would show some shift at that point as well. As it doesn't, it nust be a sensor error on the wideband.

Hi All -
I called Brian Goodwin last Monday and the fresh mid-pipe with free flowing catalytic converter was here Thursday. Mike Paar installed the piece Friday morning.
My son came home from Iraq Friday (Marines, 1st Anglico) :D :D :D, so he and his mother drove the car Friday and Saturday.
This afternoon Brian wanted to spend some time with his grandmother, so Susan and I got to go for a drive. :)
Three drivers no complains about driveability and big grins for performance. Even Susan, whom I had wondered with trepidation about when her actual brush with reality would kicked in - Gave the FSS a BIG Thumbs Up.
Thx Lyle

Allright. :) She was the one I was worried about. The extra 25WHP must feel a bit better as well. :)
