Due to circumstances beyond my control, FFS will be closed next Thursday. Last year at this time I spent four days at Bondurant in their C5 Corvettes and Formula Ford. What a blast. This year my youngest son and his wife gave me a day at Bondurant on shifter carts. As he and my son-in-law will also be on the course, it is my DUTY to see that the always end up behind me. :) That could lead to serious problems and/or death. Mine :) I know I am a better driver than either of them (Ari and I watched Hans go all over the course at Arroyo Seco :)) but they have more nerve and less fear of death and can probably go faster than me. Time will tell if age/experience is better than youth/fearlessness? LOL

Awesome Tom!!! Go for it and have fun!!! Greets to Hans and the family. In Hans' defense we was running on pretty crappy tires. I still remember the clouds of brake dust coming from his car LOL! Dont forget Nov 17th at ASR... ;)

I also remember the chumk of tire he left on one of the apex bumpers. :) They really didn't like going sideways across the apex bumper. Most of his problems were related to "In fast and out slow" and apexing the turns way too soon. Like the main sweep. You have to wait and wait and wait before you turn in or you end up sideways in the next turn. Which he did religiously.
BTW, I talked to Tim today about the carts. He is not involved with them. He said they are like the ones I raced in the 60s (only 3x as fast). No seat belts. He is going to test the changes tomorrow on the 99 after I dyno in the morning. He said to say hi!

In the Bondurant video Tim mentioned he started with that method, then with shifter carts. :driving:

Exactly. NASCAR was the result of the whiskey runners determining who was the best/fastest at eluding the police.

My father always said the same thing. He used to run whiskey to the Dry counties in Kentucky for a little extra cash when i was growing up. he had an old 54 Ford that the Trunk and under the back seat were converted in to a tank for the whiskey. Still had a full interior but he did a ton of work to strengthen the rear suspension.
To this day I've never seen anyone that can drive an unsynchronized tranny any better than him..

Well, these old bones are a bit stiff and sore but less sore than the youngins that were there. :)
It was a blast. 80+MPH didn't actually seem all that fast. I think our old 60s karts at 30-40 felt faster?
Anyhow, I only spun out once. Had a great time too. My son, son-in-law and the two guys from the shop that does all my machine work were all there and running. I think Todd from the machine shop (he races sprint cars) did the best. He was simply flying around that track. I did OK except for the tight 180 onto the straight. Everytime I made it on to the straight, it would cough and sputter, then catch and take off. The concensus of opinion from all my friends was that my extra 30-40 pounds I have over them was too much for that poor little cart. :censored:
Only serious injury was my son. Evidently he cracked a rib or two but we don't quite know how. Guess he wasn't keeping tight enough in his seat? The rest of us were simply muscle sore.
if you get a chance to run the shifter karts, do it. However, a boosted Miata is a lot more fun. Well, maybe not a turbo Miata but the Sc'd ones. :) J/K
