Has anybody installed the "Low Profile" SPAL fans or any other brand that saves space from the fan to the engine? If so, what brand and how well do they work? Pictures? Space saved?
Thanks

Hello Tom, happy New Year amigo!
2008 will be your year, so you better hire help.
I can't answer your question with direct experience but, I've always thought that Myron (2/3rd's Cobra) sells a neat set up.

According to the website it looks like it should fit with your big Koyo, not sure 'thou with your big bar and sway mounts.
Steve Lepper's Qmax reroute kit will be interesting:

I did talk with Myron in the past and he said that if the OEM fans fit, so will his set up.
Also, with the price of SPAL fans being almost $300 for the pair, his shroud PLUS fans seem like a pretty good deal.

Well, I just bought Myron's deal yesterday, so I'll be able to testify . My problem is that due to my TDR I/C and PWR radiator, the blower belt is really close to the OEM fan motor. Going to a larger crank pulley would cause the belt to make contact, I'm sure. Myron said that these SPAL fans are much shallower. We shall see.

Just got my confirmation email from Shaikh at FatCat Motorsports... he says that if there are 5 more buyers by next Sunday, it's $25 off on a group deal (http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?p=2872931#post2872931), bringing the price down to $350. So, if you've been on the fence for one of these fan kits, now's the time!

My new fans were just delivered. Quite an elegant and beautiful solution to the fan problem, to be sure. They are much shorter than the OE fans, easily by half. The plexiglas panel that they are mounted on is simple and very well made. You do have to mess with the electrical connectors a little bit, you either cut the car-side connectors and attach the supplied spade connectors, or cut the OE fan-side connectors and replace the SPAL connectors with those. Otherwise, you just line the perimeter of the panel with the supplied foam tape and bolt it right to the radiator standoffs using your original bolts and supplied washers. The instructions do say that with the wide range of aftermarket radiators, the standoffs do vary some and I can attest to that. My PWR radiator was a lot different than my OE one with regard to the spacing of the standoffs. I had to trim my OE fans quite a bit to get them to fit. They used the OE radiator as a pattern for the panel. The holes in the plexiglas panel are intentionally designed on the large side so that if any adjustment needs to be made, it should be minimal and there is plenty of material there for removal. I'm very pleased with it .

So does it all line up well and it fits with your tensioner?

Dunno, I'm still at work and haven't gotten it home yet. Tom and Steve have convinced me that somehow my blower is tilted nose down relative to everything else. When my new 120mm pulley gets here, I'm going to do the fans at the same time and I'll try to get the pulleys to all play nice together. Depending on how lazy  I am this weekend, I might actually get to it.

Yeah, I'm really good at avoiding the projects on my car. I started the TDR IC install a week from last Saturday, and even though all I need to do is like 5 more steps, I can't seem to get myself down into that cold garage. It's much easier for me to watch reruns of Mythbusters.
