Well it seems we have another one under way.
Only done the very basics, like the planning, getting the extra bits etc.
I'm also installing a proper oil pressure gauge at the same time.
The car is a 1.8 2004 and the kit is a coldside.
You happy now Tom?
To the other RHD guys where did you mount the VDB and the IAC ?

The good news is that you got to drive mine with the 'real' oil pressure gauge. You won't be scared like I was the first time I drove it and came to a stop after it was warm and saw zero oil pressure. :)
Glad to see it is under way.

Yeah your oil gauge gave me a bit of a scare at first but nothing a blip of the throttle didn't fix ;)
I would have been "under way" the day I got back if I could stay awake.

Well that was a fun morning.
First I put up a gazebo in case it rains as I have to work outside, then time to remove everything.
Tom a 2004 car that does not have VTCS seems to have a slightly different shaped top half to the manifold and will it just lift off, NO! is the answer, after much tugging, hitting and general time wasting I decided it might be a good idea to take a look what was in the way. It is the fuel rain at the front of the engine, it just need to be bent towards the engine.
So far I have got to step 47 with jacking the car up (to lazy) or removing the alternator. I wonder how long I can keep going like this. My advantage is my size, I can reach under the manifold and undo all the nuts although I did drop one, I must try and find that.
Oh well back to work.

Oh well the gazebo lasted half the day then the wind a very strong gust of wind blew it next door. So work had to stop as it was now too wind and wet.
Good progress has been made, just on vacuum line and the PC Pro cards to go in and it is turn the key time.

She has just started for the first time
And it was first time once fuel was through and boy does it sound good (just as I remembered.

Well been out for may first drive and my first thought is "I must by a neck brace".
It brings back memories of the warm weather in Arizona.
I have a small (ish) problem, when accelerating hard and changing gear the throttle seems to "stick" closed. I think it is probably one of the vacuum pipes in the wrong place or may be it just does that now but I don't remember it on Tom's car. Any ideas?

Make sure that when you installed the throttle cable bracket, that it is not rubbing on the throttle crank arm.
Make sure there are no sharp bends on that long throttle cable.
Are you saying that it is faster now than when it was stock? :)

It is just a tad faster
There is no problem with the throttle when the engine is off, I sure it is load related because when driving "normally" the sticking is not there but when pushing hard it takes a lot extra pressure to start to open the throttle then all is well. I shall try a few things and report back.

How silly do I feel?
The sticking throttle is down to the fact I had not adjusted idle so all the air required was going via the IAC and the throttle plate was fully closed. This meant that pushing hard the vacuum was enough to hold the throttle closed but it was cured with a turn or two on the idle screw meaning most of the air went via a slightly open butterfly so the vacuum did not build up and hold the throttle.
Now could someone remind me of the advantages of a turbo?

Glad it's fixed but it's still a bit strange. The IAC valve is routing air around the throttle body and should have broken any vacuum?
Let me know if the problem comes back. We have seen two TPS that are a bit different inside that made it too tight on the center adaptor shaft. All we did was sand off a few thousandths of the blade end of that adaptor and the problem went away. When the TPS was tightened down, it pushed on the shaft and that put side pressure on the shaft.

Tom,
Thanks I will keep an eye on it.
Also any news on the flexible hose for the intake?

I can send you the hose but it couldn't make the bend before hitting the clutch master cylinder in Australia. That's why they/we went to the elbow. Let me know and I'll send it.

Is there any chance you could send another elbow that has not been cut at the angle (did you see the picture I sent?) as well and then I could use a short aluminium tube (may be right angle that I can get here) to join to the flexible hose to route to the stock air box?
I'm more than happy to pay any costs just let me know.
Thanks.

Hey Drew, so is this up and running then ?
Haven't noticed any posts on the UK forums yet.
Are you going to dyno it, I'd be interested in the results as the US and UK dynos rarely agree.

Yep it is up and running.
I will get it dyno'd but time is not on my side as I have a lot to do to the car for it unveiling at the UK owners club spring rally.
There is a little hint in my signature but only a small hint.
I have to say I have driven many cars of differing power levels and there is nothing to make me think it is not meeting Tom's claims, far from it I'm sure it exceeds them.
