Hi all,

Been lurking a while but this is (I think) my first post. I recently installed a used FFS and have been enjoying it immensely. Lately, however, it seems to me that the supercharger is noisier than when I first installed it. It runs the same, pulls just as hard, but the whine at idle seems a lot louder. Should I be concerned?

At idle, the SC is in bypass so you shouldn't be hearing a whine at all.

Go under the hood and blip the throttle manually. Does the bypass open and close?

I'll check when I get home today...didn't drive it in to work. The last I checked, it seemed to close and open fine.

thx

Yes, the bypass does appear to work fine when blipping the throttle. Any ideas? Do you think the bearings in the SC are bad, or going bad? What about the SC oil?

I was led to believe that it had only around 6K miles when I bought it...and it certainly looked new.

Air filter on good? It would be louder with it off.

Yes, good and tight...it's a loud low howl that increases in pitch as you give the car some gas. At WOT, it sounds like it should, I guess, but louder.

Well, it looks like I will have to send my blower back to Magnuson for a rebuild. Tom supplied me with the info and sure enough, they will honor the warranty. Now, I guess, I'll have to tear it all down and wait for my rebuilt unit to ship back. The silver lining is that I get an essentially new blower:)

Woah, so it WAS the blower?

Glad it's still under warranty.Well, it looks like I will have to send my blower back to Magnuson for a rebuild. Tom supplied me with the info and sure enough, they will honor the warranty. Yep. After talking to Tom and describing the sound and where it was coming from, he suggested sending it back. I just hope the turnaround time is short...I'll miss driving my car:(
