View Full Version : ScanGauge II
I contacted the supplier and they say my 96 isn't compatible. But I've got the port and everything?

Interesting, I just looked at their website and it says ALL 1996 cars are compatible. Is there a difference in the European spec cars?
That's what I thought. I've just emailed them back for clarification.
Here's what I got back from Telematica...
The 1996 year was the start for OBDII which exists only on USA. In Europe we have the EOBD. The EOBD was mandatory from 2000 for petrol vehicles and 2004 for diesel engines. EOBD and OBDII is the same protocol, but in Europe applied in the year 2000. We do not want to deceive you. We only want satisfied customers.
So why has my UK spec car got a port???

Take a pic of the port.
It could have been easier to just put it in all Miatas instead of creating different versions? Just becuase it was not required does not imply that they did not include it.
I was reading up on the UK forum last night and it seems chappy may be right. The diagnostics port I'm talking about is the one in the left hand wing in the engine compartment. I understand the OBD ports are inside the car??

Yeah, the OBD II port is located in the car near the driver's seat (requirement here, at least.) In my Miata it is located next to the fuse block. In my S2000 it is on the side of the center console.

I think regulation requires the OBDII port to be within 18" of the steering wheel. (or something like that!)
