Expensive and worth every penny.
I have used Synthec and Mobil1 in the past, as well..

I used to use Mobil 10W30 but switched to non-synthetic 10W30. Long story but basically had to do with cold starts on the 2005 with VVT. Evidently 10W30 synthetic and 10W30 dinosaur oil are not created equal as to the "10" part.

John I have been using 5w30 synthetic in my 02 in 5w20 synthetic in the 05 turbo.
But Tom is right about the cold starts being a little rough.
Tom how long did you use Dyno oil in your car after you got the synthetic oil out, time or miles ? Did it help the starts ?

I got the car with 6 or 7 thousand miles and used Mobile one to start. I think I did about 3 oil changes so add 9000 miles. That gets us to about 15K and I sold it with about 30K, I think. As good a guess as I can make. The VVT seemed to be sluggish when cold for the first mile or two until the oil warmed just a little and could move through the VVT. The dinosaur oil didn't seem to have that problem. Maybe stuttered for the first block or so and then OK. I am one of those bad boys who gets in, buckles the seat belt, starts the car and drives away.
Sorry for the thread drift. Well, kind of sorry. :)

I have Amsoil Full Synthetic 10w30 in my 99 now but I'll be changing to either M1 or Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 at the next oil change.
BTW, I change the oil every 5000 miles as I've had an oil analysis done at 3000 miles on the oil (M1 5w30) and the oil showed plenty of "life" to the oil.

I have been using Mobil1 10W30 since my 99's first oil change. I am at about 40k with no problems so far.

Sorry but that made me laugh, Tom you don't know what a cold star really is in Arizona. To me every start is a hot start.
As for my oil it is 5/30 semi synthetic and I have no problems at all.

Would the new 0W40 have helped with the cold starts?

I honestly don't know? Maybe? Problem only lasts a minute or so. I highly recommend that you let a cold engine idle for a minute or so in the winter anyhow.

Mobil 0W-40 synthetic and no change in the cold starts. I'll be going back to 5W-30 at the next oil change. I haven't flashed the AP software yet either.
