Since my whole exhaust system is original and looking ugly I'm looking for some input on parts to replace the whole thing including the exhaust manifold and associated "warm up cat".
Good-win-racing has an offer on the RoadsterSport midpipe and muffler which seems pretty good from here. Either that or the RoadsterSport midpipe and a Racing Beat single tip for slightly less money (not much).:nopity:
Now the manifold parts. Racing beat header or a 2001 stock manifold and downpipe.
I realize that I have to relocate the oxygen sensors to straddle the remaining cat.
I'd appreciate any input on these 2 possibilities as well as comments on noise issues.
Mine's a 1999 with a very recent FFS coldside with the "normal" pulley.

With a SC, you'd benefit most by increasing the size of the exhaust...a 2.25-to-2.5 inch system is worth consideration.

Since you aren't in CA, I'd suggest the Racing Beat Header for a bit more breathing. As I recall, the CA pre-cat unit was the worst, the 1999-2000 cast-iron manifold is slightly better and the Jackson Racing and OEM 01+ header were better still. Then I think you get a bit more breathing room with the RB Header, enough to make a difference. If you want to go all-out, there was a BOIG header in the Miata.net classifieds.

After that I like the factory MSM cat (it's bigger than the non-turbo unit) and a nice cat-back exhaust...I'm partial to a twin-tip unit but I'd also consider a dual-tip but I'd have to engineer it myself.

Overall, this system would keep the noise down to only slightly more than stock while offering a noticeable improvement of overall response.

I put on an OBX header and a Goodwin midpipe (2.5") I got Zero power increase from my stock Cali system.
