View Full Version : Timing Card Failure?
Hello all. Yesterday morning, I had to move my car out to the street to make room for some landscapers. Ran just fine - no problems. Then in the afternoon, I went out to move it back when they were done. It would crank just fine but didn't fire at all. So I checked the PC-Pro's and the Timing Card. Well the Timing Card looks like it has no power. I had to get the car moved back to the driveway so I unplugged the harness and connected the ECU directly as it came from the factory. Car started up perfectly and I was able to get her back in the drive. I've not had a chance to take my meter out to see if I've got power or not. If I remember correctly, when I installed the Timing Card, I soldered the power and ground wires right in where the PC-Pro's are tapped in.
So until I can get out there with my meter, I'm wondering if there have been any instances of failed Timing Cards out there...
Thanks...

Drew over in the UK thought he had a bad one but it works great here. Other than that, zero. Check your red and black wire connections.
Well I finally had time today to go out and dig a little deeper. I put the harness back in line with the ECU and turned on the ignition. Lights on all 3 cards! Turn it over and it started right up. Crap. I hate intermittent problems.... With the car running, I inspected the wiring for the card and made sure that everything was solid. I figured that if I did have a loose solder joint, I'd find it while monkeying around with all the connections and the engine would lose spark. No go. Kept running just fine. When I wired the card in, I shrink tubed all of the connections. So I'll be cutting the shrink off of the power connections tomorrow for close visual inspection. At least I know that if I am out driving, I can always run just the stock ECU.
So that brings up a question. In the event of losing spark while out driving around and needing to remove the PC-Pro harness from the ECU, is it better to tie the by-pass open? Or what about just removing the belt? I always have the 3/8'ths in the trunk....

Check the connectors at the harness. Maybe they weren't plugged in well? Been there, done that. If it is wires, I'd bet on the red and/or black wires.
