I need to tighten my alt belt as it is whining bad. In order to do that I need to remove my SC belt and tensioner to gain access.. So I am looking for any tips on removing the SC belt....

Thanks

Put a 3/8" breaker bar in the square hole in the front of the tensioner, swing it away from the belt and pop the belt off. Then remove the therr bolts holding the tensioner bracket to the SC and remove the whole assembly.

Use a 3/8" breaker bar to loosen the tensioner and slip the belt off. The tensioner bracket comes off by removing the 3 bolts.

All the the bolts on the alternator tensioner assembly are 12mm. You may have to loosen the lower pivot bolt which iirc is a 14mm.

Ah... Great minds and all that. :)

Thanks Gents... One other question. If I remember correctly when I installed the coldside I was close to not being able to tension the alt correctly because it was hitting or about to hit the underside corner of the manifold. Anyone else run into this?

If I am out of adjustment room, can I install a slightly shorter alt belt to "raise" the alt and gain back some adjustment?

Thanks again

Was the Alternator about to hit or the adjusting screw? That screw is way long.

Hi Tom,

If I remember correctly, it was the tensioner system.. Ok the screw and the bracket the screw lives in, not the generator itself... I need to get deep again to see for sure, but that is what I am remembering....

In that case, I think you can cut a little off the screw and cure the problem.

Just remember to cut it of the threaded end of the screw, not the head end. :) J/K

Great minds indeed. I just need to learn how to type faster on this iPhone.

Also if you look at the end of the adjustment bracket that bolts to the motor you can move the whole adjustment assembly down. I know I had a slight clearance issue with the bracket and the bottom of the intake manifold. Moveing the bracket fixed it for me.

Hey Colin,

Thanks for the tip... I was hoping that a bracket modification was possible!
