Took the car to the dyno today. Great shop with nice "heartbreaker" Dyno Dynamics dyno. :) About the car: 97 with nearly 110k on the clock and stock everything except the 8 year old Thermal R&D 2.25" exhaust and a new Mazda cat 5 years ago @ 62k (original failed under warranty). I still have the intake in the original space under the blower. Intake temps were just a bit under 120F on the scangauge.

Credit where credit is due, Bill tuned the car. :devil2: Though I believe my car is a bit ping-happy even when I was NA, there was no ping even with all the timing put back in. After the dyno I noticed the car pulls even smoother than it did before in all gears, nice!

What's next? 180 deg thermostat, radiator, 115 pulley - in that order. :) The car doesn't have overheating problems now even with the AC on full blast and temps into the 90s, but I plan to take the car to the track this October. I'd also like to relocate the air filter behind the driver's headlight, but I think I'll likely wait for a "kit" before pulling the trigger there.

People typically give a 15-20% correction for that unit. Even at 15%, that would put it right around 190.

"there was no ping even with all the timing put back in". You're not trying to say the ECool works, are you? :)

I've heard several different estimates on how different a Dyno Dynamics or other load based dynos such as the Mustang read. Some say it's 10%, 15%, even 18%, and I've also heard whp numbers such as 20 or 30 hp. I've never been one for chest-pounding about horsepower anyway. I only view the dyno as a tool for exposing problems and fixing them. I think it served its purpose here. :)

Hey, let's not get carried away here!

Hey, let's not get carried away here! :tongue:Tom shouldn't, that's our job for such an elegant solution.

I admit I was pleased when I saw we could pull all of the timing retard. Prior to the dyno, I almost believed you that your engine was ping prone. Since you have a timing card and we might as well put it to good use, putting on a larger pulley I admit was my instinct :). I think a 115 would be a great choice. Just be sure to put in a 180 deg thermostat and a radiator before your next race.

I also am seeing the need for us to make an update kit for owners of original Coldsides wishing to route the air filter at the new location behind the driver's side headlight. From what I observed on Matt's car, that would yield a reduction in intake temps (not to be confused with intake manifold temps) of 40 deg F.
