California smog check examiners require a proof of CARB certification for aftermarket engine modifications. Will I be able to pass smog in California if I decide to instal a used FFS kit?

Yes. Provided it is the standard kit with 105mm pulley, 75mm throttle body and E-Cool. If you are needing the under hood sticker we can mail that to you.

Thanks Bill. This will definitely be a future upgrade for my car.

Will adding a timing card to the PC Pros void CARB certification?

Yes, anything that is non-standard per the CARB specs would void it from strictly meeting CARB. However, you might want to talk to some of the CA guys here to see how they deal with that.

My suggestion would be to install the used kit as the standard setup on the car and get it emission checked, etc. Then, for off-road use only ;), you can add the options you would like.

Will adding a timing card to the PC Pros void CARB certification?

It will if they see and recognize it. My cards are tucked up under the dash and my guy has never gotten on his hands and knees to inspect them. Not saying yours won't , but it is unlikely. I also use a programable Powercard which looks for the most part like the origional one that came with the CARB kit. I just bundle all 3 cards together with a rubberband and put it where the sun don't shine.

I am ordering the pc pros from Tom at the moment. Are all the pc pros adjustable? I prefer the adjustable ones. I will just have to tuck them away like socal pat when it's time to smog.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Do you switch your header during smog?

Nah, that's hidden away by the TrackDog header (I mean heat) blanket. ;)

Actually, the Timing Card has no effect on the CARB certification of the kit as it is not part of the kit but an option. It is not CARB approved and could fail BUT, it has nothing to do with the kit, It is the same as asking, "If I add a non-CARB header to the car, will it void the kit?". The answer is no, it will have no effect on the lit. The car may fail CARB and the header may have to come off BUT it has nothing to do with the kit.
