Ladies and gentlemen. Start your checkbooks and credit cards. We have success. It turned out to be one of those DOH!!!!!!! moments. Drives great, makes near double stock WHP and pulls like a freight train. :)

Tom, Danny and I have a mutual Nascar gig the end of June--really like to bring the car out and get the Coldside installed whilst we are gone; then there will be time to shake out any bugs prior to heading home--put me on the calendar around the 20th of June, please.
If the test mule is that much hotter, what a beast!:devil2:

John,
All the tip in problems are gone and the hood closes. ;) It now pulls from a dead stop to red line like a small V6. Bill is going to try and get a new dyno today/tomorrow and put the hood back on for pictures.
More than happy to do the install in June. I want to get with Danny shortly as well so he can drive it and let you know what he thinks. If you remember how well his 96 (?) pulls, the 90 is right there with it now. Elphaba (the other Dan) is going to meet up today as well so he can give an up-to-date review. We will most likely do his 91 as the next install. Convert that Hotside to the proper side of the engine. ;)

Thanks. The "team" is Bill. This is 98% his doing right down the line. He gets all the credit.
I am happy as can be. I think I like it even better than my recently demised 99. Those little 1.6L engines rev really sweet and quick a.d the loss of a couple hundred pounds helps make up for my bulk.

I got the emai. Consider yourself down for one of the first ten. Should be a quick Miata in Dubai.
We are building a production manifold right now. Maybe have it by tomorrow?? Then on the 90 it goes. If all is as planned (Best laid plans of mice and men...... and all that rubbish :)), we should give the shop the go ahead to make the remaining 9 kits of the first batch. They are almost sold out now with your order.

Sounds exciting....and will be great to be able to out-accelerate SUVs as well
Tom @ Fast Forward
04-29-2010, 04:26 PM
Probably not ALL SUVs. Some of those $100,000 vehicles are pretty well endowed with power. But you should be able to climb hills faster than the over-the-road 18 wheelers.

Point taken. I'll be happy enough to leave a few fully laden minivans in the dust before slowly making my way up the freeway food chain then.
Corners are a different story of course but there's just not enough of them around, so I figure that the only thing to do it get to 'em faster. :ninja:

With the new kit, you should have enough power to require an automated flash-to-pass circuit for the headlights. :driving:

Was wondering...are these kits basically going to plug and play or will they need a little fine tuning?
I can do basic tuning stuff myself but just curious...if it needed lots of tuning was thinking of a possible Megasquirt PNP. If it'll be 90-95% 'there' and safe out of the box though, will probably leave as it and just enjoy the driving. :tank:

It will need to be checked. Either on a dyno or with an A/F gauge. It will ship ready to go BUT, sometimes a wire is not in the right place. Better safe than sorry. Tuning is a matter of minutes, if at all.

05-07-2010, 07:07 AM
Yep I've got access to a couple of dynos here - each has AF sensors integrated into the dyno itself (both DynoDynamics).
So would any tuning to be done involve fiddling with the map (i.e. which interface would you use to fine tune) or would it simply be a matter of, say, adjusting the base timing of the engine to eliminate knock?
Just curious! :)
Tom @ Fast Forward
05-10-2010, 11:07 AM
Only the most minor of tuning needed. Basically you will just need to confirm that everything is hooked up correctly and working properly.

Hi guys,
Any news on a possible shipping date for the finished kits yet?
:taz:
Tom @ Fast Forward
05-21-2010, 01:56 PM
The latest date is that we just updated my 90 kit to the latest 2 extra injector setup and it works great. The manifold for Dan's car will be ready next week and installed shortly thereafter. We will take for real orders with for real credit card numbers through the month of June and probably start shipping the second or third week of June, if we can get blowers that fast. At the moment we are running 4-6 weeks on blower deliveries so it could be July. He who orders first gets it first. :)
The CARB kits make 10PSI and 165/170 WHP on 91 octane. East coast people will get more WHP with less timing. We will also have upgrades up to 15 PSI (what a blast to drive) but that will take really good fuel. We are going to test it on E85 shortly (next week?) and let you know. I think 200 WHP is possible on E85. Even as is, the increase of low end torque is something that re-defines the word FUN.
I will get something up on the home page but, just so you know, the timing card wil be standard equipment on all kits (90-05) and the base price is going to $3995 starting the first of July. We have been at $3695 since day one and our costs have gone up ever since as we added new features. Now, the High Flow Fuel Rail (normally $175), the Timing Card ($300) and an additional injector ($150) will be standard equipment on all kits at the $3995 price. During June, the 90-93 kits will remain $3695 with a %10 discount ($3325) and still include all of the above). We won't restrict it to the first 10 as interest is high but carry that price until June 30 when I go to bed and turn the phone off. :)

This will make alot of folks very happy! I'm with you on the E85 and hope for really great results! As Mark P said "an FFS kit would be where an E85 conversion would really shine" and he also said it "could produce stunning results". Even on the single 5th injector and a 25% mix I'm back to almost stock timing with a 115 pulley and 13psi of boost. Can't wait to hear what kind of temps are in the manifold... heheheheh.
Tom @ Fast Forward
05-21-2010, 03:38 PM
Going by Bill's numbers, there could be 198WHP hiding there. My opinion is that, if it makes 198, it will make 200. :)

Thanks Tom we love updates!
Latest tweaks sound like the result of a lot of effort going into the kit so job well done....drive impressions in the other threads sound real promising too.
Great stuff! Makin me drool a bit.

Yup Dan, I think we'll all be going green soon. A "sustainable" 200whp on a 1.6 with a clear ecological conscience. You'd actually be doing the world a favor by using E85.

DOH! Just bought new 215 Bridgstones :gnorsi: Just as well. The "E85 station" close to my house turned out to be not so much... Now the closest is Apache Junction OR Coolege Depending on time of day and traffic. Looks like Im stuck with crappy gas and Torco for now:blush5:

Do you have an installation manual? I have a 1990 with no PS but with AC and 12,800 miles. I want to have a look at the degree of difficulty of installation. Thanks, Hope to get it ordered in June with the discount....

05-25-2010, 01:22 PM
The 94-97 instructions will be reasonably close. Close enough that you will be within an hour or so of estimated install time. BTW the existance of PS or AC have no bearing on a coldside install. :)
Tom @ Fast Forward
05-25-2010, 01:56 PM
pat beat me to it. :) I would say the 94-97 instructions are 98%. Any differences will be minor as to difficulty or time consumed.
