HOLY MOLEY! This is a very different beastie than my hotside car. The issues my car has are completly absent in the new coldside design. Flaws that I have been living with and drirving around and for the most part unconcious of pop out in high relief after the first 5 min in the coldside. Firstly; My idle droop is still bad even after fiddeling around with vacume line gage size and IAC positioning ect, ect, Hell, even after adding a dash pot to slow the last bit of throttle colsure, I still have to blip the throttle when turning on the brake and off gas to keep it from stalling. Not the case in this car. Smooth transition from hard acceleration to idle with no stalling in 45 min of hard driving. I put the car through all of my usual fail manouvers without a hiccup. It does have just a touch of idle droop BUT the car is in the early stages of final tune and the idle hadn't actually had that much attention paid to its on-off throttle behavior. Tom just wanted it drivable and mostly civilized for street driving impressions. That said; it goes like hell and execpt for idle transition, which still needs final adjusment, the motor is seamless. I say the motor and not power because off boost in "normal" driving, throttle changes are much less abrupt than on my car. In boost, same thing, much less abrupt. Boost is right at 10 psi, roughly the same as mine, so at WOT its a scalded rabbit like Elphi :) This is good, I feared loosing some power because traditionally hotsides; while having more idle issues tend to make more power. The new intake manifold must be more efficent than than past renditions because all the power is their and their will be more to be had with some fiddeling (not that I would ever meddle with such a well sorted design:angel:) I have described my car to friends as being "tricky" to drive, and it is. Its also a hoot! My hotside has a sort of nasty ill manered race motor feeling. Toms coldside has NONE of this affect. Drive it around like a girl and and you would not think that anything had been done to the car from stock excpet for the exhaust swap (header cat midpipe and RB muffler) Stomp on the loud peddel and all that changes. DETANATION: NONE: Admitidly it was a very cool day by AZ standards but I put the car through all the usual paces to bring out any knock I could find. Fourth gear pull to almost redline from ~1800 RPM, sustained and repeted full throttle pull near redline. No knock, none. Tom has a knock detector, for detanation detection that may not be heard with the naked ear and I never had an alert when driving the car. This is what I've been wanting: Easy to drive with no histarics or drama but with power at the comand of your right foot. Jebus! I cant wait!:taz: Test Monkey out!:taz:

Sounds like your not dissapointed! I had a CS once, I can relate.

The 1.6 is a different beast than the 1.8s that I have worked on. Additionally, the Coldside is a different beast than the Hotside. With the 1.6 Coldside, part of what the holdup has been, is that I had to actually add fuel in the vacuum zones. I also play with the AFM and TPS quite a lot. With voltmeter in hand, I played with the spring adjustment on the AFM the other day until I got it pretty good. Still think I can get it better. We also had to make a new part for the TPS to make it work more precisely. That 1.6 TPS by it's nature is quite sloppy, so we had to take out ALL the slack on our machined TPS adapter piece. The idle issue we have determined to be a cause of my using 3/8" vacuum hose rather than the huge 5/8" that the older IAC requires. Also I have determined that I didn't adjust the TPS quite right. Once I get those two issues resolved today I think she will drive perfectly.
Well... depending how the rain is. Driving around without the hood in the rain would probably be a bad idea

Okay, Tom, I won't admit that we drove the fool out of the '90 with wetness in the air....:Angel_anim:
Quite a ride, the little red rocket! Other than the minor irritants mentioned already, Danny and I were very happy with the whole experience. Bill, keep us posted as you work the bugs out of the tps/afm issue--be interesting to hear what really works.

10 pounds of boost - 123WHP? ;)
When is the dyno run?

I'll admit I was a little disappointed by our last dyno runs. But at least it was about 30rwhp better than what I heard about the dyno results of the "other" Coldside 1.6 out there

This thing is a different animal from my 1.8 setup. I have always felt the 1.6 motor was a free reving machine and now with coldside fi it is a monster. Seamless power and instantaneous response. With the idle issues sorted out this will be a win win win setup with no downside.

Have you noticed the flood of new posts on Mnet from all the BEGI 1.6 coldside adopters? Methinks they just did it so they could say the did. Man, when this thing hits the forum over there Tom and Bill won't be vacationing for a while. I can even see Kathleen pitching in on the assembly line! ;)

Seriously I am looking for a 90-93 1.6 to restore and install a CS. Will take my time and let this deal develop. Sounds like fun!

:ninja: If your sneeky and careful you wont have much restoration to do. Tom got his 90 for not very much cash and its clean and mean!
