View Full Version : Crank Pulleys and BTB Compatable with BRP kits?

Hi,
I am running a BRP Hotside without IC but with BTB, unfortunatly i've found that the BTB is crap.
The problem is mainly from the return spring and idle adjustment (lack of it in comparison to the stock TB), it seems as though they have borrowed the spring from a bic biro as it is extremly weak in comparison to the stock return spring.
Obviously you are using a different BTB as yours is 75mm but could you please post some pics and a brief explanation on how you set your BTB idle, is it the same as the BRP procedure?
Lastly are your coldside crank pulleys compatable with the BRP 6 rib hotside kits?
If so how much are you selling the pulleys for?
Cheers

Mark,
FFS's crank pulleys are compatible with the BRP hotside. The nose pulley though are different from the HS. He now has in stock the HS nose pulley.
The crank pulleys are IIRC $60. If you're going to order a crank pulley, do yourself a favor and get a nose pulley from him as well. BTW, FFS also has auto-tensioners for the hotsides.

Here's a pic of my BTB from the pax side looking toward the drivers aside.

Mark,
Chuck is correct. We now have in stock correct replacement nose pulleys for the SC as well as crank pulleys from 100mm to 120mm in 5mm steps. All pulleys are $60 each.
I'm curious. Is that the MAC BTB or BBK? We use the BBK but it is double the cost of the MAC.
For idle control we mount the IAC valve remote and plumb it back across the BTB throttle plate. We also use the BTB adaptor to feed the cruise control so it works properly on hills. Our hotside coming this fall will also use that tap to feed the brake boost like our coldside so the brake boost canister doesn't see boost (no brake boost at the end of a long straight is not fun :)).
Call my cell 480-993-5105 if you want to talk about it.

Mark,
Unless you already have an auto-tensioner, you REALLY need to think about getting one.
I JUST changed the pulley on my car and it took me less than 15 minutes from when I went out to the garage. This is by myself and with me bumping the engine to rotate the crank over so I can position the pulley to loosen and tighten the bolts.
HTH did I ever do this without an AT???

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the quick responses.
I do not have a nose pulley puller and am interested in a fairly dramatic increase in pulley size (have 95mm now want 105mm or 110mm) so would prefer to up the crank pulley size rather than decrease the nose pulley size by such a large margin.
I have read that there have been problems getting the Auto tensioner to run the belt centered, is this now solved?
$60 is a fantastic size compared to the $105 BRP are putting them out at, how are you able to get such a better price?
Are they made in the same way as BRP's?
It's the Mac TB im using, im really happy with all the kit execpt this.
It looks and feels like a cheap kids toy for $700 it has been problomatic and a real disapointment since day one.
As i am running an Auto im probably not even getting any advantage out of it either.
But as the standard TB fitting kit did not come with my kit im pretty much stuck with it.
Lastly, how do i go about ordering and finding out P&P rates (Im in Greece).
Cheers

Mark,
My suggestion on getting a complete set of crank and nose pulley wasn't for increasing your boost. Through extensive dyno testing, Tom (and with me standing around picking my nose) has found that the original unanodized pulleys I got with my original BRP hotside may be very suceptible to belt slippage. Also, the fixed tensioner on my original kit didn't help at all.
At the last dyno test, I cranked the fixed tensioner as far as I could and yet I was STILL getting belt slippage.
As for the AT having problems centering belts, that was another company you're thinking of. My FFS AT worked from day one and I've yet to have any problems at all. And since I was a test moneky for FFS, I must have changed pulleys and belts more often than an average person in TWO LIFETIMES!
As for the price of the pulleys, IIRC, BRP was charging $185 for the crank pulleys as recently as a few months ago. Why does Tom sell it for so cheap? Cuz he's a nice guy? :D

Interesting reading Chuck thanks.
Im running a 95/65 now giving me around 5psi of boost, i've not noticed any slipage yet.
I'll have to check the finances but if was to order a 65mm 110mm and a Auto tensioner with the bar thing that would total $285 right?
Do you also sell the nose pulley puller?
What is the ordering procedure?
Cheers

If you can call or even e-mail Tom about ordering.
As for a nose pulley puller, I just pulled it by hand. But if you end up needing it, I imagine any auto parts store (even in Greece?) should have one.

Mark,
The two pulleys and auto tensioner would be $270 plus shipping. I just changed another nose pulley the other day and pulled it off with my fingers too. Like Chuck said, you can probably use a puller from a parts store if needed. Seems like if you take it for a hard run first and get it hot, it seems to come off easier. When you put it back, the torque spec on the nut is 45 ft-pounds.
There seems to be a variety of mounts for the fixed tensioner. Check and see if youes is held on with three bolts and three spacers or two bolts and spacers. The one I did for Chuck was three. I shipped one to anither customer and ne has only two. Haven't heard back yet whether it works or not? Let me know.

Hi Guys,
Just a couple more questions.
Do you do a BBK BTB kit for the hotside?
If so how much is it?
Cheers

Yes, I do have a BBK BTB kit for the hotside. The kit includes:
75mm BBK BTB.
TPS adaptor.
Computer flow designed BTB adaptor.
IAC adaptor/bracket.
3" intake hose and MAF connector.
Price is $500 plus shipping. The kit also corrects the problem of cruise control dropping out on hills.

Allow me to give an unsolicited endorsement for the pulleys that Tom sells. I bought two a couple of weeks ago.
The old pulleys cut into the belt after a couple hundred miles and enhanced the natural vibration of the motor. A couple hundred miles after Tom's pulleys have gone on the car and everything is smooth.
I can see that the belt rides higher in the pulley. I'm very happy with the change. I have the 115/65 pulleys on my 99. But I also have extra injectors and water injection to keep the ping away.
Can't wait for the powercard pro.

Chuck,
In your picture above, what is that cable next to the throttle cable?

That's the cruise control cable for the aftermarket Audiovox cruise control.
