Hi Tom,

Do you have any pics of what comes with the BTB kit?
And does it come with a good explanation of what to do with the IAC?

I'm getting close to ordering one and need some eye candy.....

Our kits are so well done they don't need instructions. :)

There are pictures iof Chuck's on this forum somewhere. I will post some more when I get back tomorrow.

New rear SC bracket.
Cast BTB-Adaptor
BTB
3" intake hose
IAC Adapter & bracket
TPS Adapter
Vacuum hose
Fittings

It also cures the cruise control dropout on hills.

That's certainly better than, "We're still working on the instructions. Just do the best you can without it" like some OTHER vendors. :D

Maybe, "Our kits are so well designed, they install themselves!" ;)

Hi guys!

Tom has been kind enough to invite me over to AZ to help me clear up my problems with my BRP hotside kit. While here, we added some goodies like the autotensioner, BTB, and 6 rib conversion. I am like a kid with a brand new toy now. :D

To install the BTB, it's probably best to take off the SC and work on it on the workbench. I did it with the SC still on the car and it was a PITA to get some of those hex screws on the BTB in! It would have been faster if I had taken the SC off the car and put it back on.

Steps:

1. Remove the SC
2. Remove from the SC everything including the rear SC bracket. You need to replace the bracket because the new bracket has a much wider opening for the larger TB.
3. Install the new SC rear bracket, BTB adapter, BTB (in that order)
4. Cut out portions of tubing for the new vacuum lines. 1 on the BTB will go to the IAC which will be mounted on the passenger side firewall and the other on the BTB will go to the top of the engine (sorry, forgot what that's called). Which one goes to which does not matter. I say cut off roughly enough to route the tubes now b/c it's gonna be real hard to connect them once you mount the SC again (connectors are facing down and are hard to reach). If that's confusing, you'll understand once you see it.
5. remount the SC
6. Reconnect the intake w/ new 3" hose
7. Connect the throttle cable.
8. mount the IAC on the pass firewall. It's just 3 self tapping screws and then some hex screws.
9. Connect the vacuum tubes on the BTB as described above. Then connect the vacuum tube on the BTB adapter to the IAC also.

I think that's it! I know I'm missing the TPS adapter but I don't remember what we did w/ that. :D

Great to hear! How is compared to before?

I think he said it was about 170 before with 100mm pulley. Did 202.6 this morning with BTB and 110mm pulley. :) We typically see ~7-8 per 5mm step. So I would guess ~15 for the pulley and the rest for the BTB. Some of the gain would also be attributed to the belt no longer slipping too.

He let me win @ 8 Ball so I let him win at 9 Ball. ;)

Before I had a JRSC installed by BSP and it dynoed at 155rwhp. Pretty darn good for a JRSC. I didn't dyno after installing the M62 w/ stock crank (126mm I believe) and 72.5mm pulley but the boost gauge maxed out at 6psi. On the dyno w/ the 110 mm crank pulley (which is actually a smaller ratio then I had before), BTB, and 6 rib w/ autotensioner, I was able to get up to 9.5-10psi and netted 203rwhp. Not bad eh?

For the past year, I've been hating my car because it never ran right. Car would hang at 1.5k when I stopped and would drop to 1.1k after a minute. And that's a real long minute. That IAC fix that makes my car idle like a dream. I'm in love with my car again. I'm looking forward to driving it everyday.

What was really surprising was the 24 hp I lost from my clogged cat. For those of u with old cats, check your cats!

I'm in LA right now... half way back home to SF. The car has performed flawlessly on the way back. Pulls hard! Thanks again Tom for everything! You really are a magician!

Practice your billiards when you aren't building FFS kits. I'm coming for ya next time ;)

Steve,

Does that show you how tired I am and how much my arthritic shoulder hurt? LOL, I said 100mm pulley and we converted it from a 4 rib. Well, back to bed. ;)

The stock crank pulley is 130 so you had 130/72.5 = 1.8 which is actually higher than what you have now 110/65 = 1.7. So, more power and slower blower. No belt slip also adds a lot to the WHP. No more belt dust on the hood either.

Steve,

Doesn't that power just feel... AMAZING!!! ?

Yep... it does feel great. That thing pulls and pulls.

I still need to get my cat fixed tho. Looking at options and am thinking of replacing the piping also. Once I get that done and start seeing normal A/F ratios, the fun begins!

I found it quite interesting that our setups which are almost identical put out identical numbers. It's a good sign for the rest of those with 99/00 miatas :D
I'm back in California now and at work. :(

Man, your cat must be really plugged as mine only cost me 15HP. You could do what I did and just have a straight pipe fabbed in place of the cat. Then when you need to have the car smogged, just swap the cat back in. As long as you keep the OEM resonator and a reasonably quiet muffler like the stock muffler or even an RB, your car should not be too loud.

As for our cars getting the exact same HP numbers, isn't it amazing when a vendor says it'll get xxx HP and it actually does with no excuses? lol

Does the BTB kit require the coolant lines that were originally on the OEM throttle body?

When I installed my hotside kit, I disconnected the coolant lines to the throttle body and I just connected those coolant lines together. I did not run the lines over to the throttle body which is now on the supercharger.
Since the throttle body is now sitting right over the number 4 runner of the header there's no problem with the air being too cold....

BTW, my idle is very good and I don't have a problem with idle droop even with the A/A IC.

Tom @ Fast Forward

Nope. Coolant lines are only used with the 94-97 IAC.

Tom had to remind me that there are three cops that live on the next street over from his house. Why remind me of that? Uh, so I'd stop smoking the tires leaving his housing tract. :D
