View Full Version : A couple installation questions

Most of the install is complete now. The supercharger is in, the wiring harnesses have been stripped and rerouted, alternator reinstalled and the brace is installed.
Things left or do: plumbing and pulleys. Here are a couple questions I have:
Routing of coolant lines: The IAC lines from the front coolant hose, and to the oil filter cooler need to be rerouted. I can route from the coolant hose to the IAC and back again to the oil filter, but I was thinking it is less in of a run to go from the coolant line to the oil filter, then to the IAC and back to the return where the line from the oil filter went. What is the recommended path?
What is the best route for fuel lines? My FPR is on the front of the rail, the rear is plugged, and the feed is in the side. The fuel lines provided are not nearly enough to reach everything. I assume the best routing is under the SC where possible?
How is the air filter secured under the engine? There is really nowhere to mount it. Does it just sit on the belly pan?

Congrats on the progress. Sounds like you are sailing along.
You need to take a line from the oil filter connection and another line from the thermosta housing (where the two lines connected originally and run them to the IAC. There should only be two hoses.
I don't supply the fuel line as I never know the direction the customer will take to hook up the fuel rail. The other fuel line and "T" are for the 5th injector. I agree that under the SC is probably the best setup.
The filter simply lays on the belley pan. When it is back together, you will see that it is fairly well secured there.
Sometimes I don't get to read the board on a regular basis. If there are any questions that you need a quick reply to, call my cell phone.

I have a couple questions about the EGR valve. This is mounted to the provided bracket at the rear of the supercharger. Connection to the exhaust manifold via the pipe across the back of the engine.
At the top is a vacuum line connection which goes to the EGR SOLENOID VALVE (VENT). (this was originally connected to the black vacuum hose with the red stripe.)
Underneath is another vacuum line connection that I ASSUME goes to the VDB. Is this correct?
Also there is black vacuum hose with a blue stripe which comes off the EGR SOLENOID VALVE (VACUUM). Does this also go to the VDB?

Bogey, sounds good! Now one thing to keep in mind when routing lines.
Try to route the lines in a logical fashion, maybe make a harness for both lines and route them together. The idea is to look at the factory routing and try to apply something that looks like it makes sense and blends in. If you inspect the factory routing of lines, you will notice a few details that most all of them follow. The lines are routed in a vein-like fashion that avoid rubbing other parts. Factory lines also are routed along the engine bay panels. The lines are also bundled if routed to the same place and branch out to make connections. When looking at a system of lines to route, be it electrical or hydraulic, try to picture the longest line that is routed along the engine bay panels to its connection on the engine with other lines of the same type routed along the same path and branching off to its corresponding connection. You will see that it ends up clean and purposeful. Hope this helps.
It took me several iterations on my install to get it to the point where I want to do more but cant ;)

On my '95 ( guessing it's the same for your car ) the Black with Red dashes goes to the barb on top of the EGR valve like you said.
The Black with Blue dashes goes to the VDB for the boost sensor.
The other one, I'm not sure which one you mean but if it's the one on the bottom of the throttle body that goes to a T connector which then connects to the IAC and valve cover breather.
You'll LOVE it when it's done!!

Hey bogey,
I will be at National Trails Raceway, 2650 National Road S.W. Hebron, Ohio 43025 this Saturday for the OVR Points Event #11 - The Stanberry Cup autocross event. This is located about 20 miles west of Columbus, Ohio.
If you can break free tomorrow, drive on up and say hello. Bring a helmet and I'll give you a ride on one of my runs if you are interested.
I will be running in the third run group. My guess is that my runs will start around 12:30 to 1PM.
Directions - National Trail Raceway is about 20 miles east of Columbus on old U.S. Highway 40, one mile north of Interstate 70 at the Kirkersville exit. From - Columbus, take I-70 to Highway 158 north and follow the signs. 9:35AM First Car on Course

Sorry - I can't make it. Sounds like fun though!
I will be on a Miata Club drive to Bardstown KY this weekend. We will be taking our other Miata (97 BRP Stage 2 Hot Side).
I have completed installation of the Cold side on my 96, but am still getting fuel leaks. I fixed the leak I had on the FPR (3 o-rings later), now injector 1 is leaking slightly. I had replaced all the o-rings on the injectors, but this one got folded. Hopefully I will have his resolved Monday and start up.

Bogey,
When you put the o-rings into the fuel rail, wipe a drop of oil on them. They are dry and the manifold is dry. Might help them slide in without twisting.
