Does anyone on here have a shop manual for any 01+ Miatas and if so, does it have a decent section showing an exploded view of the VVT assembly on the front of the intake cam. I wouldn't mind buying a manual if it is of any use, but if it is just a bunch of badly translated crap like I have seen represented on some posts, I may have to try going in blind. Can't tell if there is something wrong from the outside and the engine rebuilder may have taken it apart and not told me (just grasping at straws, he probably didn't).

Thanks Tom. It helps to explain how to test the oil control valve, but the VVT itself isn't covered. Is that the actual, "official" Mazda manual?

I will go take another look at the parts to see if I can figure out what they are talking about.

About timing belt:
On 01-10-12 in: "Note: It is preferable that the positioning pins of the pulley boss are just above the timing marks." Any idea what that means? If they mean the bulged out "chicken foot" looking shape that the marks align with is the "Boss" then that is what I have. The arms of the shape are slightly above the timing marks on both gears.

Just because I have the manual doesn't mean I know how to do it. ;) Somebody else help him out please.

Kyp J I have an actual 2002 shop manual from mazda, Do you think it is the same?
If so maybe I can help. I should be back on my computer by Wednesday and off my wifes lap top. Scanning and printing is not easy right now.

If you could look at the link Tom put up and see if yours is the same or better on the VVT assembly. If the same don't bother scanning it. If better and it isn't a problem scanning it, that would be great. If a problem and it is comprehensive I will go buy a manual if I can find one. I have some stuff from the net but not on that part.

Thanks for what ever you can do.

Kyp J what Tom found for you is the same thing that I have, It is even on the same page. My book has no more or less info. The book cost me 148.00
Its nice to have but not sure if it is worth it, because you can find out most of the info on the net.In the book the only thing it has is on page 01-10-9

Kyp J what is going wrong that you think there is a problem. I stopped at a mazda dealer today to ask him why there is so little info on the VVT and if he had any other info for me, He said there is not much info on this item because they never break down. BUt no he didn't have any more info for me other then what is in the book. He asked what was going on and maybe he could help me, So I told him I wasn't sure, but the info was for a friend and I would ask him what was going on?
