I hear you. Even those of us who have the kit are excited. It is a fun time dreaming about the day when you will be force inducted. Use the time before then to make sure your tools are ready and all the maintenance is up to date. Let us know when you take the plunge!

ha! yes im one step ahead. Thinking about basic matinance, timing belt, and coolant flush all day. FMs twincooler Alu-rado/oil cooler sounds like a safe bet.

I am excited too. I can't wait to have you for a customer. :)

Personally I am in love with the 55mm Koyo. I can't say enough good things about it.

I've been out the last couple days putting the 05 through it's paces. I am in love with it all over again. 01-05 coldsides ran very well before but this is amazing. Must go plug in the soldering iron and get my 99 back on the raod to see what it will do.

I'm in love with my car all over again also! Trust me... you'll always have a smile on your face once you get the FFS kit in your car. If you look around this board, you will only find happy customers. That's an amazing feat.

Can't wait to get my exhaust built next week... Thanks Tom for your old PWR. It's working great!

Yea but a hot day for you is 75F. Here it will be 75F on Christmas.

How is the Koyo better than the PWR?

I was thinking the same thing. I've had a brand new PWR sitting in my garage for about a year now that I haven't installed. The stock radiator is working just fine. I bought it when I was first looking into a hotside with the TDR A/A intercooler. It was the radiator that was compatable with that intercooler at the time. Since I went with a coldside, I had no reason to swap it out. Should I think about installing it or sell it off? I haven't had any cooling issues yet in a mild summer.

Maybe I should sell it with the brand new ACT clutch I also have sitting in a box in the garage(more hotside madness). I've been hearing some good things about the Mazdaspeed clutch. Any reccomendations when the clutch finally goes?

Do you have a real temp gauge to refer to?

The PWR is 37mm and the Koyo comes in 55mm.

I got the PWR because Gary@TDR recommended it over the Koyo 55mm due to the fin construction of the PWR being more effecient (according to Gary).

I've been using the oil temp gauge I installed and the OEM water temp gauge. No change with the water indication and the oil temp runs about 210 in the summer.

Chuck said it right. The PWR is about 37mm vs about 20mm stock. The Koyo comes as a 37mm or a 55mm version. I was basing my comment on monitoring the ECU data on water temperature through my OBD II reader. The stock radiator will run around 195/200 but, on the dyno when you put your foot to the floor, you can watch it climb to around 220 straight away. My PWR is better but also will climb under load. What I see on the dyno is that as you pass ~210F ping starts and gets progressively worse the higher the temp. At the moment I can't give you real data on the Koyo 55 but my temp gauge doesn't get up to normal under off boost driving (I don't have boost at the moment in the 99 as Chuck stole my card). As soon as I am done testing the 05, I will get some street temperature OBD II data logging with the Koyo 55mm.

The Koyo is a 2 row like the PWR but they are two HUGE rows.

I like the ACT stage 2 but the ACT stage 1 is sufficient. The stage 1 grabs a little low to the floor for me but has stock like pedal pressure. The stage 2 engages like the stock but takes more leg pressure. The stage 1 seems t be more on/off and the stage 2 seem to let you slip it easier to get out of the hole at launch.

Hmm. Interesting. I've always heard that Oil temps always run 20~40F hotter than water and my water temps are now at 195F at cruising. However, when I tapped the oil line from the oil filter base, it was running at 250F+.

Where are you measuring the oil temp? Or is it your factory gauge?

Thompson oil filter relocation kit is installed with a Westach sender installed at the base of the kit and a Westach gauge (I love Gary's stuff). Since it's a "remote" location from the pan, I estimate about a 5-10 degree variance. 210 degrees on the gauge so I figure 215-220 at the pan. Still should be plenty cool.

Running 50/50 premix for coolant. I've also heard that a "real time" water temp gauge can drive you batty if you monitor it too much... thinking it's overheating. Too much variation in temps can create a sense of not running "right".

I got the PWR because Gary@TDR recommended it over the Koyo 55mm due to the fin construction of the PWR being more effecient (according to Gary).

When I looked into them originally I thought it was the other way around and the PWR, which (I thought) only came in 55, had clearance issues with the shrouds hitting aftermarket sway bars. That is why I got a 37 Koyo which I deemed to be big enough since I planned on a reroute too. One of the Miata specialty sites touted the Koyo as a better value as well.

But...I never heard the PWR was deficient in any way, just more expensive.

Edit: I posted this before I read the rest of the thread on the second page so it's a bit non sequiter now.

Does anyone have any exp with FMs twincooler? It looks liek a nice setup. It seem like the oil cooler would heat the coolant tho?
