So I only have 4 wires, two of which I won't be using for now. So the question is....Since I'm relocating the radio and will have it out, is the radio HOT a good positive source? I can turn a wrench just fine, but wires make me nervous. Thanks!

Radio hot and ground are perfect.

Just what I needed to hear. Any idea of the color of each? It's a 2000 with base model radio/cd.

I tapped into the radio wires. I don't remember the colors, but I just used a multimeter to find the right wires.

This might be too late, but I used the cigar lighter wire on Tom's advise. It may be easier to identify. However, when I took out my double DIN radio to put in a single DIN, I used the new harness to tap into for voltage for the other gauges I put in.
By the way, I have a stock double DIN radio for sale cheap.

In case anyone needs it on a 99-00 with standard radio it is the BLU/BLK wire. This is where I found it http://www.madracki.com/miata/wiring.html

Looking at the schematics in the above link, I see it says the PCM is behind right side of dash. Is that true of 2000 Miatas? My 2001 is on the left. At first I thought maybe the schem.s were for a right hand drive, but it shows Calif. variations as well.

All PCMs are under the left side of the dash from 99-05. Pre-99 was behind the passenger seat.
