View Full Version : Belt rub

I have noticed that the supercharger drive belt seems to have "stretched" a little to the point that the tensioner brings the lower side of the belt to about 1/4" of the top side of the belt.

Under hard acceleration, there is the smell of burning rubber sent immediately to the driver. It is not from the tires!

The top side of the belt actually vibrates enough to kiss the lower side of the belt over the tensioner pulley.

What is normal clearance on this setup? Is there a slightly shorter belt available to increase the gap?

Yeah, you can get a shorter belt at any auto part store.

But a larger pulley would work too.

I would imagine you got a belt for the NB kit since your blower sits 1/2" lower on the IM.

Subtract 5 from the number on the belt and pick up a new one. Let me know the cost and I'll send you a check.

For example, if it says 060441, get an 060436 or close to it. I might have sent the NB size by mistake.

I will check it and get back to you.

Thanks.

The belt is a 060441. This must be the one for the NB. I will see if I can locate a shorter one.

Gates makes a K060435 6 rib vbelt that is 44.125" in length.

Locally, NAPA is $19.59 plus tax.

Is this the belt you suggest?

That will probably do the trick. The last digits, like 0441, are the length of the belt. As in 44.1 inches. 0435 is 0.6" shorter.

Actually, the 060441 is 44.697 inch (1135mm) and the 060435 is 44.125 inch (1122mm). (according to NAPA).

I don't really know the numbering system, but it does not translate exactly.

In either case, it went down 1/2" more or less. I believe it is a measurement issue. The Americans measure where the belt rides and the metric guys measure the OD of the belt or the Americans measure the ID of the belt and the metric guys measure where it rides. Not sure which but I do remember that they measure two different ways.
