View Full Version : SOT pulley issues?

Hey all,
I only recently discovered this forum:oops: , but I wish I found it sooner. It looks like many of you have the BRP- SOT kits installed and may know a few things that I don't. I have the base hotside kit that I got back in January of last year. The kit is almost right... but I have noticed that some of you are swapping pullies for the ones that Tom supplies. Are there still people that are using the SOT supplied pulleys with good results? I noticed that I have the 'sharper' pulleys on my kit, but I can't say whether or not they are slipping. Only because my belt has been dusting due to other issues (crank pulley positioning).
Now I have been exchanging emails with Tom, (thanks man!) but instead of bothering him all of the time, I figured I would ask you all. Is removing the nose pulley on the blower risky? I've gone through several leaking blowers, and I finally have one that is well buttoned up, but it freaks me out knowing that if I mess with the nose pulley it could cause problems. If I did change out the pulley, would they screw me on my warranty if I had issues?

Thanks!

IIRC, the current SOT page shows that they are now selling some new black anodized pulleys. If that is true and they learned their lessons, they should have fixed the sharp edges already in their latest batch.

Since you already paid SOT/BRP money for your kit, maybe you should call them and insist to get correct cut replacement pulleys without having to pay any extra cent.

There are pictures here http://www.fastforwardsuperchargers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=135 of the correct and incorrect pulleys.

Tom,
Thanks! Funny- I just finished reading all of the stuff and I saw those pictures before noticing you replied! That explains alot. It doesn't seem to be too tough of a process to remove that pulley if you use the proper tools. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a pulley puller, strap wrench and a wrench is about all you need right?
Jman,
Man, I didn't even notice that! I should call James and request new pulleys asap. Thanks guys!

Yeah right, and maybe Dorthy will find her way back to the OZ. This isn't a slam at SOT, since I do believe they are trying to correct Brant's lies. I was finally made whole by buying a PWR radiator with a discount for the money owed me.

However, there is no way SOT will replace pulleys sold by Brant. If those who got the POS pulleys sold by Brant want something better, they will need to purchase them, as many of us already have.

A strap wrench and a torque wrench are typically all that is needed. If the pulley is warm, it usually comes right off witha bit of a pull by hand. Take the car out and run it up a couple times first. That will warm up the pulley. The shaft is steel and the pulley is aluminum. That gives just enough tolerance for it to slip off.

If you have trouble with the strap wrench, wrap the belt around the pulley and grip the belt with a wide jaw pipe wrench.

Steve,
Did you purchase new pulleys through Tom or SOT? I wrote James a note anyway, so at least he is aware. Oh well, my car is getting there....:toetap05:
