Finally got to the dyno today, even though it was about 38*! I was there last Thursday, and got like 207HP. Fuel was rich, boost was down...found a loose hose clamp. Anyway, all systems go today. Since my last recorded dynos using two different, BRP IC's, (posted on that other forum), I replaced both pulleys, and went from 140/65, to 130/65. After waiting for weeks and weeks for SOT to send me a 126mm, to no avail, I ordered new ones from Tom. I also installed a TDR IC. Although I dropped a pulley down, (140 to 130), using the TDR, I still have 15psi boost! Even though Tom had sent me a PC PRO to try out, I just figured that my ELF is good enough. This ELF had come out of Pulleyboy's car, and, apparently works. The new SPEC II clutch installed a couple weeks ago, is smooth as butter, and easily handles the torque, compared to the Mazdaspeed clutch, that I destroyed!

My car runs great, finally! The idle is fine, and very little droop, at all. My engine hasn't stalled in months. We could have possibly gotten a few more HP, messing with the fuel, but after all I've been through, I'm satisfied, for now. And the dyno operator mentioned something about the correction factor for tempature. If Tom's new manifold will fit on my car, I'll be adding that, then, off to a REAL dyno. I just wanted all my past dyno's to be on the same machine, to prove that the BRP IC, just couldn't hack it, on my R4 install. And this dyno proves that! My next dyno will be on a DYNOJET.

I'd like to thank especially Tom, for all his help and advice, along with several others on this forum, and SOT's, that have even phoned, from Canada, to enable me to finally get my car in a condition where I'm not afraid to drive over 50 miles from my house!

Man, that's great! 220hp is what I'm shooting for soon. So you're using the ELF for your setup- are you planning on keeping the PCPro or sending it back? I'm curious as to whether or not the PC has a little more in it than the ELF. I sent my ELF back for a new chip, so hopefully it will be a suitable setup.
What are you running as far as your injector setup? Are you just using the stock injectors with a SS 5th injector? Do you have any timing retard devices? I'm trying to figure out my next step.

Thanks!

Those are some good #'s. I am thinking of going with the PC PRO. I have a working elf but am getting tired of tinkering with it. Are you getting a cel at that hp level? When I went to that level I got a cel that indicated the MAF?

Hamid...I have a 2001 with the BRP R4 setup. Had it installed last Memorial day. Long story...too long for here. Ended up having to replace my stock engine, due to my rings being destroyed, while it was being tuned by BRP. Anyway, I've got the Hi Flow (R4) manifold, BTB, ELF, TDR AA/IC, and am running 130/65mm pulleys from Tom. I have stock injectors, and 1 extra SS injector. I'm not running any timing retard, and have NO ping, even in hot weather. The R4 manifold/TDR IC, apparently is the key to that. If I mess with it some more, by adding the new manifold for the sc, and another tune, I'm pretty sure I'll get back to 235+RWP. That's where I was with a 140 pulley, and a different AA/IC. As far as the ELF goes, I just couldn't justify the expense of the PC PRO, when I have a working ELF. There are a few of those that work. I'm not even upgrading to the new chip. As Tom say's..."If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

George...This morning, before heading for the dyno, was the first and only time I have adjusted the ELF. I knew I was running a little rich from swapping out my IC, and dropping down to a 130mm pulley. I opened the ELF up, and P3 was at 8, and I moved it to 5, and drove to the shop. On the first run, made like 210RWP, and was a touch lean. Tweaked the ELF to 6 on P3, and got the results I posted...221RWP and 208TQ. Could have probably got it to about 228 or so, but it was really cold to. My next dyno WILL be on a DYNOJET, as I said before.

As far as CEL's....Had a bunch of P0401...EGR flow low...ended up the way BRP ran my small vacuum lines. On the old engine got P0302...Engine misfire, cylinder 2! That was the beginning of the end, of my original, OEM engine. I've been CEL free, for over 3300 miles!

Well, if I had to be messing with my ELF, I'd certainly go with the PC PRO. The reviews are ALL positive, from what I've read. I'm not sure if the new chip would help you or not. At least here, you have support....which is PRICELESS.

Some hotside owners eliminated the MAF CEL by removing the screen at the inlet to the MAF. If yours is still there, might be worth a try?

I had that MAF CEL. It was right after a WOT run on a 40F day (after the car was at operating temp). After I removed the MAF screen, no more CEL.

I was kind of happy to get the maf cel. I knew I was in the 220Hp range! I removed the screen and it hasn't been back.

I have one of the working elfs. But from what I am reading the PC Pro seems to work better. I really want something that I can tune to my current config and not worry about.

Then go for it George and be done! It's obvious that it's a better solution than the present ELF. And tuning it, appears to be so simple, a caveman can do it!

Nice looking dyno chart Dazooom! Got any traction problems.....

Any chance you can post your fifth injector fuel map?

Thanks...Fuel map? Oh! Bill was going to send it to me when I got home from BRP, after the install. That was last Memorial Day weekend. I have no idea what the map in the SS, looks like. I just adjusted P3, to get the a/f to where it is now. Luckily, I must have a working ELF. I'm not even messing with the new chip from SOT.

As far as the plots, even though they are hard to see up close, my HP plot, just sorta....levels out, from 6100RPM, till shutdown, but the boost is nice and linear, all the way to the end. Don't know why. Not worried about it right now, for sure. My plan is to get one of those new manifolds for the SC, and then, go to a DYNOJET, and see what I get. It will be a little warmer by then, also.

Right now, I can make my car hop like a rabbit, if I'm not careful. Just...soo much torque. It sure is a lot of fun to drive my car now, finally!

What is the purpose of the MAF screen? Is it worthwhile to just remove it to reduce flow restriction?

I've read on M.Net that it directs the airflow over the MAF sensor and that it also protects the sensor from crap. WTH knows what it is really for?

Assuming your a/f ratios are right throughout the range, your hp leveling off at 6100 and above may be an indication that your belt is slipping. You may want to take a closer look at your pulleys and consider changing to tom's sc pulley. If the outlet manifold works as well as initial tests indicate, it should help as well. Happy to hear that you are enjoying car now.
