View Full Version : coldside - air filter ?
I am in the process of looking into the FFSC for my 01. After looking at the installation directions I noticed the air filter will be located underneath the car. My question to anyone, or Tom is one, the ability of the filter to stay clean. Second, the potential of the filter sucking up water on the road(driving over puddles of water) resulting in hydrolock.
thanks

Ive never had a problem with water on the filter. The splash pan protects it very well. I looped large zip-ties around the air filter and I used a small zip-tie to tie it to the alternator. I also made a small shield to protect it from abrasion.

Thanks for the great idea!
I just committed on the Coldside
Looking forward to the install........

I think Ari has some good water video someplace if I recall correctly. ;-)

I think my biggest concern about this air intake strategy is a possible failure point at the MAF to tubing connection. The tubing is spiral, and the MAF has about 1/2" mounting area. When the tubing is clamped down, it certainly needs to be tight to keep from slipping off. However, this tight band seems to want to start cutting into the rubber spiral tubing. I will have to keep an eye on this and see if it cuts or not. I tried the original rubber seal that is on the MAF but it was too big for the tubing to fit around.
Tom, or anyone ever try extending this tubing to under the passenger side fender behind the bumper? (careful of belts of course) I would think this would be an easier spot to remove the filter for cleaning.

It has been connected that way on my 99 for almost 60,000 miles now. Hasn't fallen off yet. :)
