I just ran across a thread on the Mnet I had not seen before about the need in higher HP Miatas needing a $400 plus super special crank pully/vibration damper. It had 345 entries so I didn't read the whole thing.
Anyone here think whatever that is a necessity?

Can you post a link?
There was a thread awhile back about some people who wanted to change out the crank pulley for an under drive pulley so they wouldn't over spin the alternator, PS pump, etc when they raise the rev limit. If you change the crank pulley you lose the harmonic ballancer/dampener. Then some company was going to make new ones for them. Is that the thread? If so, the only reason for it was to be able to slow down the accessories when upping the revs.

Yep. That was the overdrive/underdrive thread. If you are not increasing the rev limit, that pulley is probably not necessary.

That was it. I over reported the number of entries but it was too much to read. I thought one of the early posts mentioned higher HP "or" higher revs but couldn't figure why more horsepower would require a a better damper. I can see why removal of the original pulley would, since it is also the damper.
How about removing power steering? I saw that discussed as well recently. Anybody here think it is beneficial for street or autox? I am probably not going to be on a track as they are too far away. Otherwise I would see if I could blow up another engine. It has been so much fun trying to get it to run right ever since and I hope I have finally got the last piece coming Monday. If it fixes my issues I won't have anything to do. I might have to get a job.
