Can you flip your soft top without getting out of your car and have it fold back perfectly? If you can't like me, the problem is most likely the two springs on the soft top on both left and the right side of the top.
The springs are located right around the level of your left ear if you are sitting in the drivers seat and right ear in the pax seat.
The part numbers from Mazda are: NCY0-R1-191 and NCY0-R1-192. They are labeled R and L probably for drivers side and pax side. I ordered the springs from Trussville Mazda and IIRC they were around $35 shipped.
The springs are a heavier gauge than the ones that I replaced and hopefully will last just as long.
The replacement is so easy and self-explanatory that it's almost not even worth mentioning. But, I used a generic blunt-nosed pliers to remove and to replace the springs and the whole procedure took about 15 minutes.
Now I can just flick the top back like I was meant to be able to do.

Chuck I can not pull my lid closed either when sitting in the seat. I have to get up to get it done. Do the new speings make a big difference?

You're talking about flipping it open and having the fabric and window fold properly, right. If you can't reach back and lift it to close it, you need to go to the gym (or orthopedic surgeon).

I have a HDSDD and I have a bad rotator cuff with 2 surgeries on my right shoulder and I can still manage to close the top from my seat. Maybe it's a leverage thing.
The springs only helps if it doesn't fold DOWN properly without help.

HDSDD...Heavy duty side draft deltoid? Harley Davidson Silver Deuce Dyna? Oh.. after googling all over I figured it out I think. Hard Dog Stainless Double Diagonal? I got a bunch of forum hits that just had the initials in your signature. No help.

You might want to get that checked out by a doctor.

I see now, I thought YOU meant pull the lid from the down position up to Top up position. Which is hard to do without leaving the seat. Putting it down not a problem

It's that thing that keeps us Arizonans from spontaneously combusting in the 120F summer heat. :sweatdrop:

Well, it seems my top is still binding occasionally when I throw back the top. So, I just sprayed a bit of PB Blaster on all of the soft top pivot joints and THAT seems to have done the trick. I'm sure you can use other lubricants, but PB Blaster was the best I had on hand.
Make sure you use a rag to wrap around where you're spraying as PB Blaster really stinks! Also, spray some on the pivot points inside the body of the car where the water drains are. IIRC, there are two pivot points.
One more reminder - PB Blaster STINKS!!! But it works. :)
