View Full Version : I Am Shredding Belts...

This is the second one to go on me, it literally removed one rib of the belt. As far as I can tell, the nose pulley is lined up with the crank, but I guess I'm not 100% sure?
It's almost like the belt is skipping on the ribs...
the belt has only been on for a few months, same as the other. I'm not sure what's making them slip. I do have Tom.s auto-tensioner and his pulleys, but I don't think it's the problem...

If it is a Hotside I found that with Tom's pulleys I needed a spacer for the supercharger nose pulley, which he sent me, to allow me to line up the pulleys. It sounds to me like the belt alignment is off on yours. I basically had to move the supercharger towards the front of the car to get the pulleys aligned so the belt would track straight on the pulleys and also the automatic tensioner pulley. The adjustment is somewhat sensitive I found.

If it is off by the thickness of that spacer, it should be real obvious. That spacer is 1/4".

When it is idling, sight down the belt from pulley to pulley. The belt should look straight. If you have a straight edge of any sort. it should sit flat against bothe pulley faces.

I remember the BRP pulleys came with a spacer in case it was needed. I did not need one for my BRP pulleys.

Tom - is your pulley fitment different than BRP's? I haven't installed the anodized pulleys yet, but assumed all else was equal.

Steve,

It seems there were a lot of variations of the fitment of the BRP brackets for the SC. That moved the SC forward or back. I believe they made a couple different SC pulleys to compensate. There should have been a small spacer with the pulleys I sent you. my SC pulley should be the same size as the one you take off. You may or may not need the included spacer. If needed, it will go on the SC shaft prior to my pulley.

The spacer you are thinking about from BRP was for the crank pulley. My crank pulley is identical to theirs except it is cut correctly. I did not send one of those spacers. You will re-use the BRP if needed.

I just looked in the box, you are correct

I discovered the dyno is closed this weekend. For some reason, they feel they can close some saturdays to race their alcohol fueled dragster :driving:

Consequently, the pulleys and radiator will go in this weekend. I still hope to do a before/after dyno for the outlet manifold and BTB.

Whew. I was afraid I might have left it out. Take the one off the SC and sit it face down on a tabloe. Sit mine next to it. They need to be the same height. You will see in an instant if the spacer is needed.

I did have the crank spacer as well, but no nose pulley spacer. I am wondering if this is what I am missing. I will check the 'alignment' once I get some good light. Currently my days consist of 'leaving when dark, returning when dark'...
Or wind up pulling the FFS pulley off and comparing it to the original BRP cheese grater.

The crank pulleys will be identical. You should be able to hold the BRP SC pulley up along side of the FFS SC pulley and see if they are different. 1/4" is easy to spot.

When I installed Tom's sc pulley on my sc setup, I thought that I was about 1/16 to 1/32 of inch off. I had been using washers to shim the sc out to align with my crank pulley and I decided to remove the washers. Anyway, the next weekend I went to a track day event and the only issue I had was my belt was walking one rib by the end of each 20 minute session. When I got back home and re-checked the alignment, I found that I needed to put the washers back in. These are standard size washers for the bolt size used on the stand-offs. I haven't had an issue since I put the washers back in place. I have a custom auto-tensioner setup on my car. As far as I know......it's the first hotside autotensioner to be installed on a BRP sc 6-rib setup. BRP based their design on my setup. I only mention that because my setup will not be like anyone elses. Therefore the thickness I needed may not be useful for your application. The point is that even a minor deviation in alignment can cause the belt to walk.

That's exactaly what mine is doing. Skipping by 1 rib after a short period of time. Hopefully the spacer will correct this.

Hw was 1/16 to 1/32 of an inch off. The spacer is 1/4". If you are, like him, off by 1/16" max, the spacer will simply throw you off the other direction. You probably need to adjust the mount of the SC to line it up if it is only that small amount off. If you were off 1/4", the belt would pop off the pulley. In any case, the 1/4" spacer is on it's way with your replacement injector..

If you take a close look you can see the washer behind the sc mounting bracket. I have been using one washer top & bottom on my setup since initial installatoin of the sc.

Well I tried to attach a pic, but it's either too big or I don't know what I'm doing.
