Tom, didn't I hear that the instructions were being written or had already been writ? Any status change?

I submitted the CARB and was told I needed the instructions complete. We hadn't finished Dan's hotside yet so I gave what I had to Chuck and he marked it up. That was just before my vacation.

Sorry for the delays. I've been so busy shipping Coldsides that I just have been short on time. All I need to do is finish the instructions and submit them. Then I think it is a slam dunk.

That is great news. My smogging is due in Aug. I already have the renewal so I could take everything off and renew today. Should I wait until August for your approval?

hi tom, can you explain the pros and cons of your coldside versus the hotside? they both seem like great products to me but i'm not sure which one i should pick after you get the hotside carb legal.
i live in cali.

oh, i also read some where that some one put some kind of a valve on their jackson racing kit so that when they let go the throttle and get back on there is no lag, do you know anything about this valve?

Coldside drives more like stock and the hotside can be raised to much higher WHP levels. I would say those are the two main differences.

I have no idea what valve you mean. Our kits use TPS control to make the transition from off to on boost and back absolutely seamless.

thanks for the input, i guess i'll be waiting for the hotside carb version.

Just out of curiosity, is the "CARB" process going to cause "upgrade" difficulties on hotsides in terms of pulley and intercooler changes and the various tuning variations to achieve high horsepower.

Or

Is the kit that is purchased the final configuration allowed (assuming the owner wants to stay legal). If so, are various horsepower kits going to be offered?

If/when it gets CARB approval, that will set specifications like pulley sizes and maximum boost like the coldside. The Coldside ARB No D-617 reads:

The Fast Forward Supercharger Kit consists of the following main components: Magnuson MP62 supercharger with a 65 mm diameter pulley, 105 mm diameter crankshaft pulley, intake manifold with an additional fuel injector, BBK throttle body, open element style air filter, and Jackson Racing PowerCard Pro (no user adjustments). Maximum boost is 10 psi. Supplied fuel hose is manufactured and labeled to SAE J30R9 standards.

any update on the carb status for the hotside?

Well, I was waiting for the kit to be fully tested on the 1.6L before trying to finish the manual. That is kind of on hold but I think I have enough to finish the manual and get it off to ARB.

With no hotside kit to sell, I wasn't trying too hard but I will get on it for you guys with the old BRP/SOT hotside kits.

I think you are referring to the brass restrictor on the bypass valve. Some people removed this restrictor so that the bypass valve reacts faster. I used to have mine removed in the past and the transition is not much faster on a coldside but may be faster on a hotside. I have read in the long run, it may damage the bypass valve diaphragm.

Well Tom, my DMV registration came today and I have to get a smog check. So, you have until October 2nd to come up with a hotside CARB EO :toetap05:. Should be no problem, right? ;)

Oh well, at least the PNO is only $17.

Well, the bad news is that I am still out of blowers and Magnuson says they will have the castings this week and not ship until next week now. I have gone as far as I can go with Dan's 1.6L at the moment too. There is a software problem with closed loop for the PC-Pro and it wont be resolved until sometime in August as the engineers are tied up and it is a low priority. SOOOOOO, I don't have much to do BUT the manual for the hotside. I will post it when I get it done and ask for you guys to read it and think about your install and let me know if it is good, bad or ugly. :) Then off it goes to CARB.

Eagerly awaiting! I'm dying to get started with the hotside.

Tom -

Do you supply a vacuum tube schematic sticker to afix to the underside of the hood of my car for the smog tech?

Tried to get my car smogged yesterday and the tech said that such a sticker needs to be on the underside of the hood in order for him to smog the car.

Also should have a sticker listing what the components of the system are, similar to the description on the ARB website for each EO.

It is almost easier to remove the kit to get it smogged after talking to this guy. I will have to drive to several shops to find someone to get it done.

Any word on your hotside certification?

Chuck, the CARBed Coldside kits that go to California get a sticker that goes under the hood and the tensioner bracket engraved with the CARB EO information. CARB did not require the sticker to carry the EO data, just the EO number which they are supposed to look up when the do your car.

The hotside will be very similar when CARBed.

Any progress on the CARB for the hotside?

Tom @ Fast Forward

I can't do CARB until I have a working Hotside. We need Dan's car put back together.

Well, where is Dan and who has his car?!
