When I was considering buying the JRSC from Track Dog Racing, Gary strongly suggested that I get one of their heat shields.
Would the heat shield be a benefit for the FFSC?

Hot side probably.
coldside..probably not.
I can sell ya mine since I went coldside and think I'm gonna do a
header wrap this spring.

Any time you can keep heat away from the motor and the piping it is a good thing.
Gary was right to try and sell his heat shield. It looks the best and is easy to install.
it is worth it...
Yes a hot side kit would love it more than a cold side kit. but both do better with it rather than with out..

When I first installed my HS, I cheaped out and modded the OEM heatshield to fir under the SC. After a year, it developed the most annoying rattle/buzz at 2500 RPM at decel.
I replaced it with the TDR blanket a few months ago and it definitely has helped with the underhood heat as well as getting rid of the buzzing. I am also of the opinion that any reduction of heat under the hood is a good thing.

Wait, I thought there were numerous posts on Miata net in the past saying to stay away from the blanket! Am I wrong?

As I recall, there were a few and I mean very few people who didn't like the TDR header blanket. But, think about how many people have bought them and have you heard of ANYONE posting about any problems?
I have only heard of one or two people. You?

It would only help if you are eliminating your factory heat shield. I put on a header so had to get rid of the OEM unit. I replaced it with a TrackDog blanket and I can tell you it works. On the exhaust side of the engine bay the difference is amazing. After a hard run on a hot day I can easily rest my hand on any component except the engine itself. After almost a year I just pulled off the blankie to remove the header and see no damage.

Got it... Thanks you guys! It just seems like there was a thread a little while back with people griping about it causing damage or something. So can the blanket be installed while the blower is still in, or is that wishful thinking?

Social Pat,
I just ordered a blanket. With that and my Koyo radiator I will not worry about my idiot temp gauge.
Thanks

You will need to take the blower off to install the blanket.
Here's my experience with the TDR blanket. I got one of the first ones when they came out a few years ago and it does work well at keeping the temps down, however the blanket eventually ate away the ceramic coating on my header causing it to flake off where ever the blanket contacted the headers and the stitching started falling apart.
If you plan to use this blanket with a ceramic coated header and hotside blower I would not recommend it, but for anything else I think it should be ok.

Hows would this blanket fare with a SS header? Anyone know?

I would think the header blanket would be of even more necessity with a stainless header since they are not ceramic coated. I am currently looking at getting another blower for my setup since the current one looks to be on the way out. I am thinking my running it without anything over the header may have contributed to this. I had the TDR header blanket but removed it a couple years back because it cut into one of the heater hoses over time. However, I am ordering a new one and will just be more careful in installing it to ensure it doesn't come near the hoses.

Bill, you might want to check out Jean's "Parting out my 01" post at the S1T forums. I believe he still has a blower for sale.
