View Full Version : IAC questions on 95...

First of all, where in the hell do you find a place to mount this when you've got ABS, etc. on a 95? There is absolutely no room on the fender. What room there is on the firewall is taken by the VDB, behind the ABS lines. I can't find anywhere that would be good.

Next question is about the water lines connecting to the IAC. One comes from the vicinity of the thermostat, right? and the other feeds back down to the block. Once the IAC is relocated, are you bypassing the water lines? Keeping them hooked up? I can't find this part on the directions....

Thanks,
Mark.

I mounted my IAC on the top of the right fender. I moved a couple of the sensors that were there and attached the IAC to the existing bracket. I drilled one additional hole in the bracket so It would mount on the post that was already there.

See http://www.thebogarts.net/imagelib/photo_list.asp?folder=SCpics for pictures.

Run new hoses from the nipple by the thermostat, across the front of the radiator, snaked around the black canister to the fender. Then the return line goes to the oil filter connection. All the remaining lines remain the same.

Yes - it looks like a tangled mess...

Thanks for the picture links. I might be able to move things around but man, I just don't know where I'll stuff them. My ABS is right there too so I've got the hard brake lines getting in the way, etc.

I'm halfway thinking about moving the coolant overflow over to the driver's side since it's a virtual cavern over there now.

I had the same concerns when installing. Where am I going to fit everything? And I do not have ABS to deal with.

You can buy a rectangular overflow tank that will fit perfectly on the driver side, freeing up a lot of space.

OK. Problem solved for now with the overflow out of the way. I'll have to figure that out later :)

Next question. Which fitting on the IAC goes to where? I can't remember if the angled nipple is the in or the out...

It does not matter. It just provides heat to the air valve. Just so long as coolant circulates it is OK.

I'm glad I stumbled onto this thread, as I was about to ask for pictures of where the IAC mounts. I bought a car with a coldside kit already on it and the former owner never bothered to install the IAC. He just set the idle really high. I found the IAC in a box of parts.

Mark - I did move my OEM coolant overflow tank to the drivers side on the car. It fits just fine with a cheap bracket to hold it in place. Mine sits at a very slight angle, but it would be easy enough to get it level if I wanted to mess with it.

Mark,

The barb under the plate goes to the VDB. The big 5/8 fitting goes to the drivers side valve cover and tees to the BTB. To connect the 3/8" hose to that large fitting on the IAC, cut a short piece of 5/8 heater hose and stuff the 3/8" hose inside of it. Use that for a coupling.

I've seen reference to needing a restriction in one of these lines. Does that apply to the 95?

Only if you have idle issues. It is the small white plastic thing about 3/8" diameter by 1/2" long with a small hole bored through it. If you need it, put it in the hose to the driver's side of the valve cover and push the hose back on that nipple.

Is it better to try and use the original IAC gasket, or is it better to use some ultra-black and make your own?

I thought I had the gasket in there properly, took my time making sure it didn't shift around when assembling. Then I try a quick pressure check after reconnect all the water lines and it leaks... :(

I had the same problem. Used Ultrablack in place of the rubber gasket and all is well.

Yep. Ultra-black. The stock gasket doesn't work. That was a carryover form the 99+ instructions and needs to be deleted.
