I am starting to assemble parts for my 99 that will be running SM2 auto-x. So far I have a racing beat header and roadstersport mid-pipe/muffler combo. I am looking into clutches, and am thinking of Exedy Stage 1 (holds 200 lb ft torque) and a fidanza flywheel. I looked at the ACTs, and might go that route. I have one in my WRX, and it is pretty stiff on the knees. Any opinions?

I have an ACT Stage 1 and like it very much.. the clutch took me about 2-3 days to get used to but after that it really isn't much of an issue unless you do a ton of stop and go time in traffic.

I opt to get a larger Radiator in my prep for boost. I don't think it's a must have with the coldside kit but we get some hot days in the Ohio Valley so i got it just as an extra precaution.

The Koyo radiator is on the shopping list, but I might get the charger first to see how it does.

Thanks

Get a real Coolant temp gauge so you know when you're overheating.

I plan on it, as well as EGT, Boost, Air/fuel and Oil temp.

Consider this:

1) do you need a lightened flywheel?

2.) Thompson oil relocate kit (easy to install while manifold off plus has port for oil temp sensor, easy to change oil etc.)

3. replace engine mounts with Mazdaspeed

read the instructions over and over...

my 2 cents

Good Luck

From what I have read the lightened flywheels really help with accel/decel, and for auto-x, that will be a big help. I thought about the relocate kit, but I am not fond of them. Once I see how the intake/supercharger actually mounts I very well might change my mind. I have no problems with the stock setup though.

De-carbonize (is that a word?) your engine ..

How old are your plug wires ??

Make sure you run at least 3 tanks of premium fuel through before the install..

I'll look into that. Thanks.

I just got through with the "DeCarbon process, with engine warm, pulled the plugs, and looked at the piston tops, all I could see was black, got a piece of 3/8 fuel line, put a small funnel on one end put the other end on top of the piston, put about 2 table spoons of "sea Foam" in each cylinder, enough to cover the piston, and let it soak over night, today nice shinny piston tops, the "sea foam" had evaporated, turned the engine over several times, installed plugs, took for little drive to blow the sute out, then ran about 6 oz. through the IM, let it sit a couple of hr.s another run, now waiting to change the oil & filter, and trying to deside which plug wires to get.

Thanks for the info. That helps.
