View Full Version : TDR blanket installation...

So I'm in the middle of the installation of the TDR header blanket to put under my hotside kit. I noticed that it is a rather tight fit under the SC bracket toward the front of the engine- in fact, I went ahead and took the bracket off to make the installation easier. The blanket however is resting right on top of the primaries of the header. Is this okay? I have a 97' and I noticed for the M2's you need to trim that area a little bit, but I was told by Gary that I don't need to.
Again, I'm in the MIDDLE of the installation and I would love some feedback quickly if possible:yes: . Thanks!!

You'll probably have better luck with answers over on miata.net since most of the guys here have coldsides.

If it were me, I would trim any part of the blanket that was making direct contact with the header. If it is making contact it is basically insulating the header in that spot and I think that over time (not sure how much) it could weaken the header due to the intense heat build up in that particular spot.

Hope this helps, but I'd still ask over on the other forum . Someone with a 97' must have installed one of the TDR blankets.

Good Luck!

call Gary Shuhart with Trackdog Racing. He's the one that made them. He will be glad to instruct you.

Good luck

I installed mine right on top of the primaries. There's just no other way to install it. I cut the TDR blanket to go between the manifold bolts and was careful to tuck the blanket to not rub on the heater hoses.

I didn't tie the blanket with anything as it's not going anywhere.

Thanks Chuckerants! I think I may do the same. I tried calling Gary today as well as emailing him, but I bet he's out on the track or something. That's why I posted here. Thanks for your help guys!
