Is anyone runnig a lightened flywheel with their supercharger? I am thinking of getting the fidanza unit when I replace my clutch on my 99. That are your likes/dislikes?

Thanks

I have a Fidanza on my '94. I think the only con would be it's a little difficult in slow traffic, the throttle tends to resemble more of an off/on switch at slow speeds ;). What I really like about it is the ability to rotate the car in mid-corner by lifting, if you get in a little hot. Overall, I'm glad I got it. However, combined with my ACT HD clutch, I got some minor clutch squealing for the first 1500 to 2000 miles.

Thanks. I've had them on other cars before, and think it would be a good addition for my Miata.

I have the Fidanza 9# on my 99. It is OK. I have the ACT XT clutch. Love the clutch, would not do the light flywheel again. The purpose in life for a flywheel is to help the car get moving from a dead stop and absorb changes. If it was a dedicated track car I would consider it. If it is mainly street, rush hour traffic is a PITA. Out here we use AC a LOT. ;-) Every time the compressor kicks in while on cruise, it feels like the engine misfires due to the instant load change on the engine. Annoying.

With a coldside, the engine blips so easy, that I actually find the 05 (stock flywheel) to match as easy as the 99 without the associated annoyances. JMHO.

Thanks for the heads up. I might go with a light steel one then (in between stock and aluminum.

That's what I am running, Jason... a 9.9 pound billet steel flywheel... I think it is slightly skittish than the aluminums, but hard to say...

My car is not supercharged yet but I'm running a Fidanza on my 92. Very light, something like 7 or 8 lbs. The acceleration is better than stock and the deceleration is different (i.e. at the track, if I miss a down shift, instead of chirping the rear wheels, the revs go up). I agree with the rest that driving in traffic can be a pain sometimes. I think that a light flywheel is a blown car is overkill.

Thanks. I think I'll stay away from the aluminum, and just go with a steel one (since I'll be in there doing the clutch).

I have my car in a Spec Miata shop for my SC install. They recommend a light weight fly wheel. (I also have an ACT clutch) They say that when you are coming out of the cormer you really get a good jump on those that do not have one.

This is what most all the Spec Miata cars have

They said that it will be fine for street use.

Cost is $400, without installation.

The Spec Miata shop that works on my car has aluminum flywheels in all of their cars.

They have had no problems with them in endurance races like the 25 hours of Thunderhill.

Let me know how you like it once installed.
