Well Scuba Steve and I turned the key this morning and it's alive ;-) Faster than I ever thought it could be....

Two questions..... This is an 01 kit and the VTCS is not used. What do you do with the vacuum line that is normally connected to the VTCS?

Second: No Brakes ;-) I have gone over the vacuum diagram and I really think I have everything connected correctly, however the brakes are rock hard and obviously are not getting what they need to function properly... They operate just like they would if the car shut off while you were driving, rock hard fully manual... Could it be the fact that I used Silicone lines for the brakes? Maybe I need regular vacuum line for that application......

Help please.....

Did you replace the entire vacuum line from the brake diaphram to the coldside intake manifold with a new silicone hose?

If so, there is a check valve installed in the OEM vacuum line that prevents the brake booster diaphram from seeing boost. If you examine the OEM hose, you will find a small lump in it a couple inches from where it connects to the brake diaphram.

I could be way off on this so forgive me if this is the case....

Thanks for the post.... The piece from the brake booster to the hard cross over line is still OEM... I only changed the line from the VDB to the hard line...

I tried...... :(

Guess one of the coldside guys will have the answers to help you out.

Good Luck!

I wonder if the VDB is plumbed correctly. It connects to the TB adaptor barb and the TB connects to the drivers side of the valve cover. If you swap those two, no brakes. There should be a hose going from the barb on the passenger end of the TB adaptor directly to the VDB. Make sure of that. The TB itself has a barb out the bottom and it connects to a tee with the second port on the tee to the IAC and the third port to the driver's side of the valve cover.

The VTCS is simply eliminated including all associated vacuum lines.

Dave - Do let me know what you find. Tom's observation sure sounds like it might do it.

Let me know when you think you can dyno, I will make an appointment for both of us.

We have had a customer or two who have swapped the two hoses at the BTB and BTB adaptor barbs. Runs OK but has some weird issues, like no brakes. before the BTB never sees vacuum. After the BTB, it is almost always at some level of partial pressure (vacuum).

We have Brakes! Now I want to know which one of you guys sneeked into my garage last night and swaped those two hoses? Damm! How many times did I look at those connections, but sure enough they were swapped!!!

Tom, I love yeah man!

Now for the next question... Now that the hoses are correct, it sounds like the IAC is making all kinds of noise... If I unplug the electrical connection on the IAC the rattle goes away... So I used the gasket on the IAC, should I? Should I use something else? what next.....

I am soooo close... and Sooooooo Happy!

OK. One down, one to go. :)

This one will cost you a beer at our next meeting. Check the two hoses at the IAC. The one nearest the end of the IAC should go to the BTB/driver's side valve cover. The barb nearest the barrel of the IAC should go to the BTB adaptor.

Make sure you make some runs with the top up, windows closed, radio off and AC off. best way to listen for unwanted noises (ping, for example).

My God! I am at a loss for words.... Not because I need to swap those hoses around also, thanks, problems resolved.... But I just got back from my first run..... Scared the poop out of myself, and my wife just smiled! Boost gauge stored 11lbs in it's memory...

I love yeah man.... If your reading this and still on the fence about a coldside for your 01+..... Get off your butt and send Tom some cash!!!!!!

Thanks Tom for everything you do for us.....

Glad I could help.

Even if you don't want one of my kits, you can still send cash. ;-)

Just 2 questions -

1) When do we go to the dyno
2) When are we having drinks to celebrate

See the great thing about a quality and take your time install. The issues found are easily resolved :driving:
