I went for a drive with Dave this morning when he took his coldside out. He did ride in my hotside a couple of weeks ago, but didn't want to drive it, so this was the first time he drove a FI Miata.
As we pulled out onto the street he hit the throttle and his first words were "HOLY COW, this isn't the same car". Of course, that is why we put FI on our car. It makes it a different car with the same handling for a lot less money. He doesn't know it, but his face also looked exactly like this
We didn't drive it much due to the
brake issue (http://www.fastforwardsuperchargers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=711), but I also drove it for a few blocks. I felt like it pulled harder than my hotside, I suspect this is simply due to the throttle response of the coldside.
Hopefully we will both be at the dyno soon.
Dave - after you get a few miles on the car, please post your thoughts, I think you are really going to like this kit.

After the last couple 94-97s, make sure it has plenty of fuel. We just did a 97 with only 35,000 miles here in town. It was driven about 1000 miles per year (one two week trip each year then parked for 50 weeks) for the last 6 years. It has been a trip. Weak fuel pump (43-45 PSI tops), carbon on the pistons, originally a bit sticky injectors (had them cleaned and tested. Dribbled for the first couple seconds as the solvent went through and then nice clean spray.), weak coils, plugged cat, etc.
I will post some dyno plots when I get them from the dyno and point out how to detect weak coils. You could see the power just die off at the top and you can see negative square waves in the plot. Those are the drop outs (mis-fires). I thought they sent me the curves Saturday but didn't get them.
A side hint for those who add a wideband to the install, if it reads 20:1 at WOT, you have two choices. The gauge is correct and you need to fix your fuel before melting the piston(s) or the gauge is wrong. Do yourself a favor and ASSUME the gauge is correct unless you can prove otherwise. Evidently, if the fuel is lean you get ping. If it is REAL LEAN, not a sound, just a lot of very high heat. Sometimes the old fuel injectors work fine at stock flows but have just enough shellac built up to not flow well when a lot of fuel is needed. More problematic on the pre-97 engines with low fuel pressure even when all is well. We have seen several of the early FPRs that were weak like the 97 we did here. They should shift from 43PSI at idle to around 51PSI at WOT.

Excuse my thread drift BUT my first ride after install.. I had my friend get in my 10AE (CS w/110MM) and had him go down the road a bit and turn around and scream back as fast as he could. The sametime I called Tom on my cell and was like "OMG" really giddy... and hollaring... and then stuck my phone out toward the road as my car went screaming & flying by....
Tom did you hear it? did you hear it? OH YES he replied...
IT WAS BETTER THAN DRUGS MAN :nono: what a rush
ok sorry.. I am out of here

What a great analogy. I bet you guys are glad you don't live so close to the dealer of the power drug as I do. LOL

Buck was so excited on that phone call, he could barely talk without stuttering. However, I haven't talked to him since. Well, OK, every morning at 7AM. Don't know if I could take it if he lived next door. ;)
