FYI...

I was traveling for a few weeks, so have been incognito, but the day after I returned was AUTOX day!

At the moment, our lots are still smaller than ideal, so it's REALLY hard to stretch the little guy's legs out, although I saw the second gear rev-limiter multiple times! Throttle response is SO good, it takes some getting used to on the smaller lots.

Chip was MIA, and I am anxiously awaiting Jason Koch purchasing and installing his kit, so we can have 3 FFS NB kits in the same club...

If you hit the PAX tab, you'll see I only took 4th, but definitely had FTD overall. The PAX index is not kind to SM or SM2. Those 550 HP 3rd gen RX7's on hi-speed courses kinda jack it up... Bill Brees, who's raw time was right behind mine with the Mazdaspeed Protege is the current NASA TTE National Champion in that car. Great guy.

BTW, TOm... You need to call me when you're ready to start your trip up here! We have an event that weekend, and quite a few folks interested to meet you!

Just wait til I get my suspension installed! :shifty:

Peru National Tour is June 28-30! I can't WAIT!

SOOO much more fun than C Stock...

And I like to call this little number, 'throttle-induced oversteer'. A concept foreign to me in C-Stock! The car is rotated about 45 degrees from where I WANT it to be! If you look where my head is pointing, that's where the car SHOULD be pointing!

I will be available Sunday the 17th. Send me directions. If the 99 qualifies, anybody who wants to can run it at the AX. It will be just street TiR tires as I am not hauling the RA-1s all the way there. Even though I will have the trailer.

If you see us enroute, flash your lights, honk your horn or wave. I am normally a friendly cuss. ;) That is an older picture and it no longer has those big heavy wheels. Look for Kosei KS-T1 instead.

I will be in Columbus at the OVR autocross event on 6/17. Let me know if you have any spare time on Saturday.

TOm, we have a NORA event on 17 June. For details, follow www.noraracing.net/forum

The events are held at the Lake COunty Captain's Stadium lot. Nothing huge, but fun enough. Ideally, if you'd like to run, try to be there by 9 at latest. If you just want to hang and watch, come anytime. We're a very efficient group. Last event, we had about 90+ people, started first car a little after 10AM, all got 6 runs, and we were done and having beers at the Captain's Corner next door by 3!

I'd love it if you could make it out for that!

It's be even BETTER if Chip weren't fleeing to Columbus! ;)

Sorry off topic, but, what kind of wheels are those? Offset?
They look great, love the deeper dish.

Jared.

I was thinking the same thing... Are those 3-piece 13" Panasports?
I remember running 13s, wicked acceleration but lots of rev limiter.

Thanks much... I like to call them 'Bonus check goes bye-bye' wheels. :D

Points to 99mx5. They're the c-8 Panasport 3-piece wheels. they're 13 x 8.5, offset is zero. Additional bonus points for knowing that they make me and the rev-limiter very close friends. :D

I bought a 3.9 rear gear from Jean here on the forum, but now i am wondering with a National course in Peru 3 weeks away whether the approximately 5% increase in gearing will even be enough, or whether I just KNOW that I will be in third, and better use it. The 5% gearing change basically is JUST enough to offset the smaller rolling diameter, so it essentially would put me back to parity with my 205/50-15s I ran in CS.

Considering I was in 3rd gear momentarily in C Stock last year without this much acceleration, I am pretty sure I will at least LEAVE the stock rear gear in for this event, and see what happens! Should leave me that extra grunt in 2nd as well.

Any of you other autox-ers have any thoughts?

Sell the 13s to somebody in CSP and go to a bigger rim?

LOL... I appreciate the sentiment, Kyp, but I'm gonna stick with these for now. Here's the conundrum:

OPTION 1 - You can run 15 x 7 or 8, and spoon on a nice 225/50-15, but the problem with that is ride height. You're then stuck for life at factory ride height, assuming you roll the fenders a bit ( I don't mind doing that...)

PROS: Better diameter, slightly wider footprint, taller 2nd gear by about 5%

CONS:Heavier combo by at least 5-6 pounds PER CORNER, plus it's almost all more rotational mass, crappier turn-in response, ride height adjustment is off the table. Of course as the gearing is taller, the acceleration is proportionately slower

OPTION 2 - Run the 'new' Hoosier 275/40...

PROS: EXCELLENT traction, great for the gearing.

CONS: Weight is way up, and as the gearing is MUCH taller, the acceleration is proportionately slower... and most importantly, this option requires a sawzall and fender blisters, if you want to hide the cut! I'm really not up for sheet-metal contortion on this car, just yet!

OPTION 3 - run the 13 x 8.5

PROS: Acceleration is just STUPID-quick. the wheels and tires are 5-6 pounds lighter than anything, and with ridiculously low rotational mass. They are also like liquid cash, as the size and offset are friendly to all Miatas and Hondas... They're almost as much used as new... and NO BODYWORK REQUIRED.

CONS: I either need a taller rear gear, OR just have likely one more upshift and downshift per national course.

Agree or disagree, this was my decision process, and I am committed to the 13's for at least this season... soooo back to my original question...

I run 225/50-15 on 15x7 rims with no problems.

Who's 225's (Kumho 225 are equal to Hoosier 235)?

What spring rate / ride height?

I run the Koyo T1R on the street and the Koyo RA-1 on the track. Both sets are mounted on Kosei KS-T1 (15x7, 10.5#) rims. I used them with the stock 10AE suspension and they were fine. I now have JIC 12/10 coil overs and the ride height is stock (10AE). I do notice that my 10AE sits a lot lower than my 99 and both are "stock" ride height. I 'assume' the 10AE and Sport (Bilstein) suspension was lower than the rest of the Miatas?

My JICs are 12/10 springs set to stock ride height and mid range for re-bound. Spring pre-load was set to 2 full turns after engagement with the springs. I was told they would be way too stiff for the street (mostly by people that never owned them) but I find them stiff but complient. I had no problems driving on them non-stop from here to Cleveland and back. I also have the big RB sway bars front and rear. I put the sway bars on before the JICs. They helped the sway but hitting 130MPH and smashing the brakes still had a lot of nose dive and so I got the JICs.
