I went to a dyno shop today to see about getting my not-yet-installed FF C/S dyno tuned. They asked how the PC Pro connects to a laptop for data logging - USB cable? I don't see a USB port or terminal on the cards, so how does one data log?

Thanks, I'm new to FI and not well-versed in modern auto electronics.

The PC Pro does not (yet?) datalog.

What the hell does the dyno guy need to know about datlogging? After all, that's why you're at the dyno so that THEY can datalog for you.

If you need to datalog on your own, then you need a Wideband. Most WBs have some sort of datalog capability.

The dyno guy just needs to hook up to the ECU and/or PC-Pros in order to get all the data he needs to tune the car. Is it more accurate to say "stream" or "download"? Does he just plug into the Miata OBDII plug, where my Scanguage hooks up?

As you can tell, I have never been on a dyno before.

No, you used the right terminology.

All of the data he needs to tune the car is available to him via the dyno. I'm going to assume that this is a Dynojet. The dyno operator will stick a tailpipe sniffer like they do at a smog station - this will allow him to measure the Air Fuel Ratio.

He will also tap into an ignition wire to measure RPM.

Between these two datasets, he should be able to adjust your PC Pro to tune your car. Now if he's really going to be anal about it, he can plug into the OBD2 port on your ECU and look at the coolant temp, IAT and whatever else he wants to.

But again, he has everything he needs at the dyno to help tune your car.

I'm thinking maybe these guys are very thorough and have the latest technology to work with. Here's their site: http://stage6motorsports.com/s6_dynotune.html

It looks like they use a non-Dynojet dyno - a load dyno. Just remember that their numbers are going to different than a Dynojet which is what Tom as well as most people use.

They do carburated cars every day at our dyno. Same way. Tailpipe sniffer for the A/F. But they use a screwdriver to adjust fuel instead of a computer. :-)

Depends. My dyno-dynamics operator said his unit was calibrated to give same results as a dynojet.
