I'm looking to do a cowl induction like this:http://forum.miata.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=25809

The K&N that came with my kit is about 5.5" diameter and 7" overall length and has a filtering surface of about 86" sq. It looks to be an awfully tight fit or just too long for the cowl setup.

This K&N http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=RA-0570 would fit better but has a filtering surface of only about 69" sq.

Is that enough?
In other words, is it big enough to suck enough? :censored:

Probably OK. I have seen a couple small filters that I would have thought very restrictive and made dyno runs with and without them (open MAF) and saw no change.

What is the measurement for the opening of the filter by the MAF ?

2.75" ID for the filter fits real well on the MAF.

Tom do you think if I go to a smaller filter it should not have an effect on the air flow?

You can run a pretty small filter at these HP levels. Remember, 200HP is only about 330SCFM air flow. Not a lot of air and it is sucked in pretty hard by the blower. :)
