I am having problems with the shop that installed the FFS coldside. As a result of it not being tuned correctly the engine was ruined by detonation. (A/F ratio around 13.2:1 and went as high as 14.8:1.

Regarless of the apparent problems caused by the tuner I am considering pay a portion of the shops bill. (The shop selected the tuner and was there to advise them on the tuning.)

The shop has given me a bill for all of the work done. However, there is no breakout of the hours by each of procedures. In addition to the engine removal/reinstall, SC removal/re-install, they installed the J&S Safeguard unit.

At this time I do not anticipate the shop giving a bill with the details on hours and $$.

I would like to find out how many hours it would take a very competent shop to do the following:

1) Hours to remove the SC with the engine out of the car.
2) Hours to re-install the SC with the engine out of the car.

THANKS!

I have installed and re-installed my BRP hotside several times - don't ask why.

To just remove the SC and the mounting hardware tales me about 40 mins. To remove the SC and remount the throttle body to its original location so that the car can run as stock takes about 2 hrs.

This does not include removal of any of the add on electronics.

With the engine out of the car, I think it would be in the 40min range to remove and 1.5 hours to reinstall and I think I am being generous.

As a guide, when I first put the SC in, and with no previous experience, I spent about 10 hours doing the job. 3 hrs of this time was spent starring at electrical diagrams and scratching my head.

race grandpa,
Was this the shop down in Auburn? I'm sending my brother there to have his hotside looked at.

Cmetzner's post seems to be dealing with a Hotside and the one in question seems to be a Coldside. I think there are significant differences in difficulty on some of the parts at least with the engine in the car. Out of the car makes it about 1000 times easier I think.

Other than that I can't relate to profesional time frames except my times are about 10X longer than the professional speed.
