View Full Version : Sell super charged car or remove kit?

This is just a solicitation for thoughts on this subject. I will be selling my 2001 Miata with FFS (BRP originally) coldside with a lot of other upgrades sometime next year due to a total change of lifestyle (not a sex change, just living in a motor home and moving around the country before I get too old to drive).
The recent rush to sell the kits without the car has me wondering about the reasoning. I can understand selling a kit that hasn't been installed, but I'm not sure I could even get my car running again if I tried to put it back to stock considering all the pirating of hoses, nuts and bolts that went on as I converted to super charger.
'splain it to me, please.

financially, its better to remove the kit, and sell the car stock. It depends on if you're up to it. I am sure there are people out there waiting for a nice used ffs kit to show up. I am personally waiting for a ffs NA 1.8 kit to show up used.

Lo is likely right... ( I assume it is Lo?)
If it is anything like bikes, the hi-speed parts and accessories are worth MUCH more as standalones than they are as a whole... If I were to sell my Duc with all the carbon fiber, solo seat, etc. attached, they collectively might raise the bike's value by MAX $400 - likely much less... BUT if I sold the CF front fender, I could get $80, the rear fender for about $150, and the single seat cowl for about $300..., so it would be worth about $200-300 to replace the OEM...
The question is: What is your time worth? :dots:

Take a $10,000 Miata add $2000 worth of coil overs, add $3700 supercharger, add $2000 worth of tires and rims. What is the car worth to sell? Roughly $10,000 (probably $9000 as a trade-in). Take the add-ons off and what is the car worth? Roughly $10,000. That's why people tend to take the parts off and sell seperately.

I guess I am going to have another project next year. The problem is timing as I am going to sell most of my tools, furniture.... everything, so I will have to prioritize my liquidations.
Anyone want a fully furnished house, car, lawnmower etc. in San Antonio? I'll even throw in about a thousand pairs of my wife's shoes, all alike, in 4 different colors. Low mileage on most.

Going along with that thought, I should probably part out the entire car. Even at super cut rate prices, some of the parts are crazy expensive. I think I saw an example of this on Mnet awhile back concerning a very high performance (as far as after market equipment is concerned) Miata. I just assumed it had been wrecked or something. Maybe not. It was probably too extreme for most newcomers to the world of Miatas but had enough goodies to attract other "adders- on", a bit at a time.

I'd suggest this. Find someone local interested in purchasing the kit and sell it to him. That way you can take from him the parts you are missing while converting to N/A.

Before you start tearing things off the car why not try to list it. Like at various Regional SCCA web sites or newsletters or Grassroots Motorsports magazine.
These might be the only people that really appreciate such a car

I was going to use it in more autocrosses this fall and next spring. If I can win all the SM2 class events I am in, maybe there will be some interest.
