Well i finished everything up tonight, stared it up and it idled rock steady. Got it fully warm while checking for leaks, and it still idled perfectly. Wow it cant be that easy.

Next I double checked the PCPro and ECool settings. Starting settings were as follows

PCPRO
Green-----1
Yellow----1
Red-------3
Y/B-------4
R/B-------4

ECool
G/B-----4
Y/B-----1

First run out, started pinging at 6k and I backed off. Bumped up the PCPro R/B and G/B on the ECool up to 5 and ran again. No ping till 6.5k. this process continued till i was at Red-8 R/B-8 onthe PCPro, and G/B-8 on the ECool. Final settings were:

PCPRO
Green-----1
Yellow----1
Red-------8
Y/B-------8
R/B-------4

ECool
G/B-----8
Y/B-----1

It pulls like a freight train, but there is VERY slight intermittent ping at 7k. the ping was reduced each time I added fuel, but once I maxed the top rpm settings I called it a night. Under 7k there is no ping at all. Any ideas as on how to get rid of the last bit of ping?

In the morning i'm going to pull and check the spark plugs. What do you all have your plugs gapped to? I'm going to drop the midpipe and check the cat, but I think it's in good shape (only 52k on the car). I'll shine a light down the and check the tops of the pistons as well. any thing else I should check?

It should be noted that I'm running the 110mm pulley atm. I have a wideband on the way so that should shed some light on things when it gets here. as far as the car goes all it has motor wise is ebay header and muffler, fresh NGK plugs and wires, a 55mm Koyo, and the FFS SC of course.

Any help is appreciated, the car drives great, I'm just avoiding the 5+k range until i can get this sorted out.

Congrats on the speedy install. Are you using the BKR8EIX spark plugs?

Currently running BKR7E. non-iradium. coundn't find any instock, but should have them soon.

also when testing the ECool via blowing into a vacuum line while at idle, should the blue light on both the PCPro and ECool come on? I blew into the tube going to my boost gauge and got the first 2 (1 and 2) lights to come on on the ECool, but there was no change in idle and only the PCPro had a blue light. Could be very possible I wasnt blowing hard enough, I'll get teh air compressor out in the morning.

Waiting for the sun to come up so I can get a better look at things.

I'll get teh air compressor out in the morning.

I would not use a compressor on the boost line as you are likey to break the sensor in the PCPRO. I think its max limit is 15psi and you risk damage. It should 'see' boost at about 2psi.

Congrats on a quick and uneventful install. :)

Correct plugs for the 99 are BKR7EIX.

Your fuel is way high. Did you, by any chance, do a leak down check before the install? Also, you might want to pull the plugs and look inside for carbon. The 99 on 93 octane should have no ping. I am concerned that the E-Cool is not working and you are running on only the main card?

Only use the air compressor if you can pre-set it to 8-10PSI. Don't over pressure the cards.

I did a compression test prioir to the install, 187-193 accross all 4 cylenders.

Pulled the plugs this morning and the pistons look ok, a dark silver.

I took your advise and passed onthe air compressor and just tried to blow into the Ecool card. I managed to get lights 1 and 2 to light up (3 psi?) and the blue light on the right but there was no change in idle. is there anyway to check to see if i have a good connection at the 5th injector?

From looking through some old posts i have one of the injector harness that had a problem. Leads are green w/ a brown stripe and red. I sodered the connection so the wires to the harness is a good connection. I'm concerned that the 5th injector is not firing. Are there any other test i can do to see? I have a multimeter, should i try to test the voltage accros the injector harness while i blow inthe ECool card?

thanks

Ok i verified that I have fuel going to the 5th injector, and when i blow on the ECool card i have a voltage (150 mV) going through the injector harness.

Problem is, with the injector installed, it does not spray when i blow in the ECool card. The injector may be bad. It had a 14.6 ohm resistance, but i dont know hoe to test it otherwise.

Any advice?

If you ground the white/red wire coming from the E-Cool card, it will spray a lot of fuel. Blowing and getting 1-2 lights is not enough for a real test. You read 150mV because it is very short duty cycle. Just ground the white/red wire near the E-Cool card. You can do it even while the wire is still connected to the card.

thanks Tom, back to testing!

Well the ECool works. Grounded the wire and it stalled right away.

so whats next on the list to check? could i be dumping too much fuel? Gonna run some seafoam through just to be safe. also gonna top off the gas at another station. anything else i should try?

Possibly a restricted catalytic converter. It can cause ping that no amount of added fuel will correct.

Thanks for the call back Tom, I'm going to wait until the iridium plugs and wideband come in before I mess with it anymore.

In the meantime I'll be seen cruising around with a huge grin on my face!
