The Back to the Future Delorean as seen in July's Car and Driver will take up residence in Coolidge in about 2 weeks. :) It is also the car used in the close of the BTTF ride at Disneyland. Which is closing now.
Although in the movie it got up to 88 MPH in about a city block, this one takes a mile or so to get to 88. ;)

Is this in reaction to the APS not being able to get power back to some Coolidge residents in 110F heat for two days? :)
The Flux Capacitor and Doc Brown saves Coolidge!

Too late. The car doesn't get here until the 15th or there about and the power is back up for Coolidge. My power, thankfully, was only down about an hour.

Is that the real Doc in the white coat?

He is an actor hired to play the part for the final month before the ride closed. The real doc was there off and on. I thought he was in the photo shoot in the July Car and Driver too? This is the car used for that as well. I'll have to see if we can fit a blower in there. They said in C/D that it never got to 88 MPH. ;-)

I am glad to see that they got the Mr Fusion model. It is much easier than relying on lighting. I bet it doesn't even need any Torco!

What that DeLorean needs is the ColdFusion setup. Twin turbos pumping through a nice MP62 or MP90 nestled in the V of that V6.

I find it funny that it is a 170ci 6 cylinder engine at 130CHP and the Miata is a 110ci I-4 engine at 140CHP. A stock Miata will eat one of them alive. Now, add 700-800 pounds worth of cute and it gets considerably slower. However, all that said, it really is an eye catcher. I expect to see an enclosed trailer drop it off Monday after next. Pictures to follow. ;)
I don't remember where I saw it. But some guy bought all the spare parts from Delorean when he got busted for drugs. Has them in a warehouse down in Texas and plans on starting production of full cars very soon.
Sort of "Forward to the Past"....

I don't think I would want a new DeLorean. They were a piece of junk when they first came out. Underpowered, unreliable, and uncomfortable.

I went by that warehouse a few years ago.
Here is there website. They actually have shops in many locations.

You can build a "New" De Lorean

They used to have more info and pics on their website, but basically they offer full restoration and parts service along with having many upgrades. These upgrades address the quirks with the original De Lorean. Also they massage the engine to get at least a reasonable amount of power (197hp). Still needs twin turbos to fit the supercar image though IMHO.

A friend of mine has a Delorean that's at the Garden Grove, CA shop right now getting the engine fixed up (it leaks, it must be British :shifty:). It's a pretty cool shop if you like Deloreans. Tons of cars in all states of disassembly or reassembly, bare frames, engines, etc. Last time I was in they even had one with a big-block Chevy enigne in it (THAT at least should take care of the power problems, not sure what they did about the handling though).
Anyway, I think that the Back to the Future car on it's way to Tom's neighborhood belongs to one of the guys at the shop there cause I've seen it and another there several times. They've really done a great job on it, everything works except the flux capacitor (it only lights up, no time traveling ;)) and Mr. Fusion (lots of steam though!).
I assume the reason it's arriving on 15th is that the GM Proving Grounds in Mesa has been sold :nopity: and before it closes the AZ Delorean Club and a couple of Vette clubs are getting a chance to go visit it that weekend. It's unclear if they'll get to lap the track or not, but it sounds like a pretty special event. Members only, unfortunately, otherwise I'd put some coke in the doors and sneak my Miata in (I kid, I kid).

They were talking about the GMPG thing at the Delorrean dinner last Saturday. I tried to get an invite to take my 99 but they wouldn't invite me. :(
I doubt this one will ever be driven.
