I'm installing the new FFS fuel rail and have run into a question. On a '99-'00 next to the passenger side shock tower there is a component that looks like it might be a fuel regulator. It's on a brass colored bracket and sits on a rubber isolator.
The reason I need to know is there are a bunch of different ways I could hook up this fuel rail and I don't want to mess up the fuel pressure. I thought though that the FPR was in-tank on my year car. Anyone know? As of right now my E-cool line is pre-unit thingy, and my stock fuel rail is after-unit thingy.

I think the part you are refering to is the pulsation damper.
The FPR on a 99 is on the end of the fuel rail. It is the little canister/mushroom shaped unit on the front end.
Check that it is not open by blowing through the threaded adapter end. Air should not flow.
To properly test it, put a fuel pressure gauge inline and jumper the FP to GND on the diagnostics connector. The pressure should be 53-61psi. Turn off the fuel pump. The system should hold pressure 36.3psi or higher after being shut off for 5 minutes.
There is no test of the pulsation damper other than checking for leaks or rust.

I believe the output end of the damper is the line that comes from the bottom of the cylinder. The input is the side tap on the cylinder.
The input line comes from the fuel line in the front of the car, and the output goes to the fuel rail.

Hmmm Tom has said the canister on the fuel rail is the snubber or damper.

OK, I stand corrected.
According to the factory service manual for the 1999, it has TWO pressure dampers. Damper #1 is on the fender and damper #2 is on the fuel rail and looks just like a pressure regulator. The actual fuel pressure regulator is back at the tank with the fuel pump.
The diagrams in the FSM show the damper#2 at the end of the fuel rail and it look exactly like the FPR that is on my 96 and 97, but without vacuum or fuel return line.

Cool. I'm dealing with the 1.8 enthusiast manual. It was good enough to get me through the motor pull and re-install, but just isn't year-specific enough for some of these details. I'm getting closer all the time.

You can leave the damper that WAS on the stock fuel rail OFF the new fuel. The new fuel rail is 4x the volume inside and does not require the fuel rail damper. I would feed the rail from the front and plug the other two holes.

Then it doesn't matter whether I use the inlet or outlet side of the unit by the shock tower, right?

The FSM is not clear as to "polarity" of the lines on the damper. I believe it is oriented as I described above. It is tough to tell from the line diagrams.

I can scan & post the pertinant pages for you tonight if you really want them.

Isn't the outlet side going to the fuel rail already? Don't you simply remove the hose/tube from the outlet side and run new 5/16" Fuel Injector Hose from there?

Right you are Tom. The thing is I was thinking of using the line going to the inlet side as one of my "dual feeds" since it is feeding my E-cool anyway, and then using the outlet line on the other side of the fuel rail. After our phone conversation I decided to take your advice and just go "single feed" so as Rosanne Rosanadana used to say........ "Never mind". :seeya:
