Well I haven't turned the key yet, but thanks to MiataMTF for helping me today, the motor is in the car where it belongs!! I installed the Supercharger while it was hanging from the hoist. What a pleasure dancing around that #4 intake manifold nut with a box-open in one hand and a cold drink in the other. Now I just have to connect the vacuum and electrical lines, and install the power steering and AC pumps.

See you guys on the road soon :driving:

Awhile back, someone was going to remove an engine with the transmission still attached. Was that you?

Whoever it was: how did that work out, both coming out and back in? Any unforeseen problems?

Nope not me. I think the tranny/motor combo would be "simpler". Easier? hmmmm not sure. The hardest part was getting the motor to re-align on the tranny shaft. Not terribly bad just frustrating for 15-20 minutes. Unforseen.... just some amateur mistakes causing us to go back and re-do a couple of things. I do think it's important to say not to use masking tape to mark anything. The adhesive fails and the labeling falls off :( Bag every little thing and mark it clearly. What might seem like understandable shorthand at the moment becomes jibberish later.

All said and done get a good manual and remember it's just a bunch of parts and pieces. One step at a time.

I forgot where I posted the question for awhile. After thinking about it, I think it was "Bam Bam" who planned on the tranny/engine trick but I don't think the project got started. He changed his mind about who was going to do it a few times and I forget the sequence and then sold the car instead.

Kyp, he (Bam Bam) kept the car and sold the kit. He is now stock and says he loves it.

I have removed an engine with tranny attached and it is MUCH easier than separating them in the car. Drop the driveshaft, a couple bolts, remove shift turret and some wiring, and yank it. Guiding it out is fairly easy.

Clutch change, main seal, etc, is also quite easy with the tranny out. The only drawback I know of is having to drain the transmission oil and refill it.

Well guys..... it runs!!!! Just like a FFS install. Idles at 850 most of the time. The battery has been disconnected for months so the EMU is learning. Had only one small fuel leak and NOT from the FFS fuel rail or the new injectors!! I did a little re-routing and didn't have one of the clamps tight enough.
Man that Walbro 255 does sing, even with the sock on it. Can't wait to get the timing card on there and strap the belt back on. Anyway I'm feeling pretty good about myself about now and have to give another shout out to MiataMTF (Mike) and Tom. :driving:

Awesome. I looked into my crystal ball last night and, sure enough, I see a HUGE pulley in your future. ;) That Timing Card will let you keep your Torco for race days.

Tom,

What kind of pulley do you think it would be safe running with a timing card?

Just curious...

My AF's are still too iffy to upgrade, but once i find out how to increase those high rpm AF's i might be thinking about a larger pulley.

NO! don't listen to him!! He's a horsepower pusher. ;) You will be limited to your tuning ability and the condition of your car. I'll be running a 115mm until I'm totally satisfied then up to 120mm. Tom is running a 130  and won't be satisfied until he has company.
