Hey guys,

Just curious as to which exhaust system you guys are running on your CS and your appreciation of it?

Im running a Borla exhaust with FM cat. It sounds pretty good but a tad on the loud side, i'd like to muffle things up a bit, perhaps looking towards an RB single with the silencer.

I'm running the quietest aftermarket unit, the RacingBeat Powerpulse muffler. It was not too bad until I put on a 2.5" midpipe with a highflow cat. That caused some drone. Add in an OBX header and I'm as loud as I can be happy with. Since the addition of highflow mufflers themselves doesn't add any appreciable power I'll be putting on an OEM when the time comes to replace it.

Pat, I think I had the quietist exhaust - Ansa Silverline duals.

Then I removed the main cat and added a straight pipe and it was L O U D! Then I removed the front cat and it was even louder.

That's when I replaced the straight pipe with a resonator and now it's juuuust right.

On my 96 CS, I am running stock exhaust and headers. Recently replaced the cat with FM hi-flow.

The exhaust has mellowed over the past few years and I would not change it. It is quiet like stock, with a nice rumble. When you put your foot in it, it really sounds great.

I have a RB 4-2-1 and RB cat back on my 97 that had a BRP Hotside, but it was loud and really droned on the highway. Since I removed the supercharger, it sounds a little better.

Did you have the silencer connecting pipe with the RB exhaust or did you have the straight through sports connecting pipe?

What resonator did you use Chuck? I used the hushpower II for my 2.5" exhaust and it makes a strange noise. I'm thinking of swapping it for something else.

My 99 has a RB 4-1 header, RB SS mid-pipe and a RB Powerpulse single tip muffler. It sounds nice, but its a little louder than I had hoped. I recently found that someone posted a video of me doing a drive-by at the auto-x. It can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_O4ASeGqgk&mode=user&search=

I let the guy at the muffler shop weld one in for $40 so I have no idea.

2001...I have RB 4-2-1 header (wrapped), FM 2.5" midpipe and an
original enthuza speeder (I think thats what it was called.) I think
enthuza uses borlas now. Anyhow, I think it's sounds pretty good.
It is plenty loud. The only thing I don't like is that, until the engine
gets warmed up, it sounds tinny, like the flow is bouncing around.
after warmed up, nice smooth rumble.

I am not sure. The exhaust was on the car when I bought it, and I have not looked THAT closely at it.

I'm running a Jackson Racing high flow cat and a Racing Beat Powerpulse with dual exhaust. There is quite a bit of drone while cruising. I love the way my car sounds. Just not with the top up cruising for long periods down the highway. The wife and I used to go on tours together with the local club. But now with a 3 year old and a 6 month old, those days are on hiatus!

I have a Racing Beat 4 into 1 header sitting in the garage. I just have to find a little time to do a test fit and mark the location for a second O2 bung for my wideband. We just bought a new camper so there goes just a little bit more of my time :) Maybe I can squeeze the test fit in this weekend!

I've tried the following combinations so far...

Stock Header , RS 2.5" midpipe, RS 2 muffler = just too loud for day to day driving and too much droning at 3500rpms. Would probably be fine for a track only car.

Stock Header, RS 2.5" midpipe, Stock muffler = Too muffled & quiet

Stock Header, Stock midpipe, Roadster Sport 2 muffler = Nice deep sound, no droning and not too loud at WOT. I like this combination the best so far.

I'm currently runnning an ebay header, stock midpipe, and ebay muffler. Its nice, a little onthe quiet side.

If anyone has a 2.5" midpipe to sell shoot me a line.

Right, I couldn't even hear the shots. I don't think they address shooting course workers in the SCCA rule book so I guess it is ok. :2guns:

On my 99 I have had the stock header, JR header and RB header. I have had the stock midpipe, FM high flow midpipe and the RB midpipe. I have had the stock muffler, some other muffler? and the RoadsterSport III muffler. They have been on the car in a miriad of combinations. Mostly, they headers didn't matter for sound, the quietest midpipe was stock but real close is the RB midpipe in conjunction with the stock muffler. That is what is on the car now. RB header, RB midpipe and stock muffler. No drone and no WHP loss. Basically quiet inside the car but wakes up the people in the cars you pass. Kind of like the stock coldside kit. You hardly hear the blower but people outside the car do. Especially those you pass with your foot to the floor.

And those on the phone with you asking you questions :P

I'll be swapping out the borla for your setup Tom....the stock muffler and RB midpipe seems like the right way to go. Just have to find one now!

UPS just delivered my RB exhaust with silenced midpipe and WOW .....

It was worth the wait, that exhaust is the nicest i've seen in a long time....the quality is awesome, beautiful welds, thick RB flanges....looks great. Much much better in quality than the borla. Hopefully it sounds as good as it looks!

Ill post some pics....

I am running the same muffler that you are and love it. I all so will be adding the high flow cat and mid pipe this spring when I get the car out of its sleep. How loud will it be after the the mod ? Dumb question ????

Can you still hear the SC wind up as you go into boost??

04 header, stock cat and midpipe, Magnaflow muffler. Fairly quiet, no drone, a little buzzy under boost. Never had a stock muffler, so can't compare. I would prefer a deeper tone, but it's not a high priority.

I'd be interested in the RB midpipe with silenced midpipe for my '03 but I can't find it on their website? Do they make it for '01-05?

By looking at the RB website seems like there is no RB silenced midpipe for the 99+ miata's :(.

Id call Brian Goodwin just to make sure....he might have another suggestion for you for a midpipe.

The only one seems to be the racing silenced midpipe which removes the CAT converter

On my 95, I am running the OBX-R full stainless cat back single outlet exhaust. I purchased it on ebay for less than $300 shiped. I cut off the tip and bolted on a stainless tip from an 05 Honda CRV. It is much more subtle than the 4.5" fart can tip that comes with the system. I also have the cheapy ebay full stainless 4-2-1 header sold by Xtune (installed same time as FFSC kit). The Cat is stock. I did inspect it closely to be sure it is not plugged. Overall, the sound is very mellow. I like it a lot. It is quieter than the RB Single outlet. I did notice an improvement in power (by the butt dyno). My car was lacking a bit of power on the high end, and it feels like it picked up a bit when I installed the cat back. It looks nice too since it is fully polished.

i have an rb 4-1 header, some hi-flow cat(probably rb), rb conecting pipe with silencer, and power pulse muffler. I am not happy with it. It is much too quiet. I am getting a 94 in march and have been looking at the borla dual for it, i like the exhaust note slightly louder than most people. When i first got my miata with a coldside on it, i kept hitting the rev limiter, because i wasnt used to the loud whine of supercharger, it was much louder than my dads '90 with the jrsc.
