I won the class A at the time attack in Arroyo Seco Motorplex. The event was a open trackday with the time attack in the afternoon. The time attack was one warmup lap then two timed laps and a cooldown lap. My best timed lap was 1:24 on Falken Azenis RT-615 tires. There were 35+ cars at the event. Class A was up to 200 WHP, class B was 201-300 WHP and class C was 301+ WHP. The fastest time of the day was 1:18.

Way to go. Wish I could have been there.

Maybe next time.

Thanks Tom :)
It was kinda funny, people were jokingly protesting the miata that was too fast LOL. During the open track, the cars had to be split in separate groups, they put me in the group with the faster cars. (Porsches, Elises, Evos and Corvettes)

Nice Job...Congrats!

Are you still running stock suspension?

Thanks! :)
I'm running stock Hard-S suspension with front RB swaybar and no rear swaybar. Stock wheels with 205/50-15 Falken Azenis RT-615s

Sorry I didn't reply to this sooner, but a big congratulations!!! That is mighty impressive to be running the dog out of the Elises!!!!!

This also puts to rest any doubts I may have had (ok, ok I admit it ) about the Coldside MP62 and its track performance. Well, not only is the engine fine but you won your class so I guess the Coldside does just fine in a torturous track day .

Running the factory sport suspension... that's great, I have found a lot of people waste money on other areas when all a Miata needs to go really, really fast around the track is boost + sticky tires + good nut behind the wheel.

Thanks Bill :) I made sure the nut behind the wheel was not too loose ;)
The elise ran a 1:23 with race tires. I had the same race tires at the last trackday and I was also turning 1:23. Race tires added a 25HP penalty, so I ran with my Falkens. A lot of these cars arrive in trailers, whereas I drove to the event and drove back. Just like you, I also open the hood to have extra cooling and to make a visual inspection during off sessions. There was no race fuel at the event, so I brought a can of Torco and it worked wonders.

Only a second behind an Elise on race tires and you were on street tires ??!?!?? That's insane!!!

That is one fast Miata you have... either that or the nut behind the wheel is on very tight!

I bet they were wondering what the heck was going on!

Actually it is not the kit (175WHP?) or the tires. It really is the nut behind the wheel. He is an insane driver.

Im at 194WHP. Remember, I missed dinner with you guys when I was at ADC :( Heres what happens when you overshoot a turn ;)

I spent an entire day cleaning up the interior only. I also burned the motor of my shopvac. :frown:

It was funny, the gang was jokingly calling me sandbagger and asking for dyno numbers LOL. When class B was running they were comparing the cars to my miata. All around it was a great event!

What Class/HP was the Elise in?

99mx5
10-23-2007, 10:04 PM
The Elise would have been in class A but the race tires bumped him into class B. He told me his car was 197HP.

He should have been a rocket. 197WHP and 1200# (?). Evidently weight was not a factor?

The owner told me its weight was around 1900#

Tom @ Fast Forward

Still, 197/1900 to you 194/2400. I would have thought weight would have been an equalizing factor?

Maybe he was running 197rwhp "corrected"? You know, corrected "corrected"
